Sounds almost industrial, with the clattering percussion (how much of that is Real artifacts is up for question); the change in vocal style for the chorus is certainly interesting (refreshing, even) I like it, particularly the chattery, metallic, delayed/gapped rhythm guitar. Very, um, and there's no other way of describing it... *heavy*; not in the cliched classic metal or rap-metal ways (most of which frankly aren't at all heavy), but more in the sense of ominousness, implied emotional trauma. Though it might be. Everything so far with this version of Wire has been very natural and unforced, the group seeing where playing together again would take them, physically as well as artistically, so my guess is if there's U.S. demand -- bookers and venues saying "come/come back!" -- they'd respond. Rather than pester the group, I'd pester any local promoters who'd be willing to stage a Wire show. later, Miles Yahoo! Platinum - Watch CBS' NCAA March Madness, live on your desktop! - -- Yahoo! I saw an improv trio there a couple of years ago, playing to the proverbial three men and a dog... I'm not a great judge of capacity, but I'd say you'd be doing well to squeeze 250 - 300 people in. The stage is in a corner, with a bar diagonally opposite. To describe it a bit better: as you come in the door, the stage is over in the left corner, to the right is a long bar area with tables and chairs. Though, if they'd any sense, they'd remove these for the Wire gig. Bruce played there in 96 - in a shed ! As one of those local promoters, I'll add my two bits on this thread! When Wire was touring R&B, I contacted their booking agency, The Billions Corporation, about trying to bring Wire to Santa Cruz. As an aside, they also represent Godspeed You Black Emporer, Nick Cave, and Neubauten, all of whom I've requested info on. Anyway, I was told that Wire requires a guarantee of at least $10,000 to play one show! Now I had been hoping to get them into a venue with a capacity of 700 that has no drink sales to offset their own costs and runs about $1200 to rent for a live show. So the tickets would have to be outrageously expensive to make that work. With that as a background, I would likely go bankrupt and the venue would probably lose money as well. For the record, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds' requested guarantee was about four times that much! Not sure about the others! Anyway, not to sound too pessimistic, but I think the resources of local promoters like myself are not in the right league for a show like Wire. Sadly, in this part of California at least, that leaves only Bill Graham Presents (AKA Clear Channel Communications) with enough money to put on such a show. So you get Wire playing at the Fillmore or the Great American Music Hall, and Nick Cave at the Warfield. Sorry to sound so negative, but I've been bumping into this alot lately. And for all of the local promoters around here, concert attendance is down by about a third. ...plus I woke up with a bit of a hangover this morning! :) Anyway, I do plan to head up to SF for the GAMH show, so if any Ideal Copyists plan on being there, maybe we can meet for a round or three before the show! > Not to start a rumor but there's still six months > after this in 2003, so maybe this isn't the only > transatlantic jaunt for them.
