Curious if there will be a copy of a I.D.E.A.L. wireview to the ideal copy in a language we all can follow. BTW there was also a promo-ceedee mentioned on their web-site. Wonder if Wire is also burnt on it. It's probably the feeling of detachment in their music and performance that appeals, and links them with Wire. And like all the best bands, they split before they got stale. The former members haven't done a great deal since, as far as I'm aware. I've got Paul Haig's Cinematique, which is pleasant enough. I remember reading an interview with him around 1990 where he came across as rather bitter, criticizing Roddy Frame for having hits. Funny stories in Q today about Menswear. Remember them? They took the basic sound of Wire's quirkier moments (Lowdown, Three Girl Rhumba, I feel mysterious today, I am the Fly), copied Jarvis Cockers dress sense and managed to make really, really bad records...but hilariously bad. "Breath Deep-ahhhh...Day Drrrream-Ahhhh" They started this silly trend of NME picking up a band and putting them on the cover before they'd even released a single. (See Terris!) Apparently after their 15 mins of fame, Menswear just went on a huge drugs and booze bender with their record company advance, went to heroin-fuelled Orgies with Donna from Elastica and then spent the rest of their career holed up in various country retreats trying to record their 2nd LP. The only managed to write one track called 'Horses', which was all about the Polo Horses owned by Kenny Jones of The Who, while they were at his studio. Apparently they were called to a record company meeting to discuss their next LP and they played this and got the bums rush. The singer from Menswear is still only 25 years old. He ought to go to Flag:Burning...it'll blow his head off. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 25 Mar 2003 03:04:16 EST From: CHRISWIRE@aol.com Subject: Re: [idealcopy] an observation In a message dated 25/03/2003 00:28:36 GMT Standard Time, jla.stevens@virgin.net writes: > Marks point was a good one I check out this list every day but rarely post > anything.
