[MarkBursa@aol.com] [idealcopy] Camper Van Beethoven ["Jason Rogers" >Pondering changing the list to "eightiescrapbandsandorhissyfits@smoe.org." > Other suggestions? all list discussions go through peaks and valleys. such is life. why should an email list be so much more than that? i wish dave would stay, just as i wished graeme had stayed when he departed. even that fella who posted about "eightiescrapbands" most of the time, i didn't mind those posts either. there was only one person who rubbed me the wrong way (and believe me, there are plenty of right ways to rub me), and i wasn't sorry to see him go. anyway, to each his or her own. when things get outta hand with dozens of off topic posts, i skim some, delete others, respond to a few, and sometimes i even try to shift some back on topic. personally, i'd rather see an active idealcopy list than the current durutti list (for example) where members have difficulty even discussing vini reilly when he's gigging, recording and releasing new albums. even sadder is the "fact" that crispy ambulance got more attention here than they did on the factory list in all the time since reforming, recording and releasing scissorgun, and gigging in england and the u.s.a.! this is the best discussion list i've been part of, spats and all. d, if you're still here, reconsider...or at least don't forget to keep in touch. cheers, another the paul ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 8 Mar 2003 20:43:43 EST From: RLynn9@aol.com Subject: Re: [idealcopy] an observation In a message dated 3/8/03 4:39:29 PM Central Standard Time, wireadmin@mindspring.com writes: > I'm sorry to lose another list member. RL ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 8 Mar 2003 20:57:25 EST From: Tisbili@aol.com Subject: [idealcopy] I should have known better. Well dang. To the extent others are offended as much as Rayo was, I am truly sorry for succumbing to my base instincts and descending to the level of umurmongering. I feel that expecting minimal civility from listmembers is not asking too much. Hick hack attacks have gone on for as long as I've been onboard. "Bursacrap," anyone? I guess it's just coincidental that every single dustup that has gone on involves the same person. It stops for a while when someone makes a big enough deal about it, but it always comes back again. I should have known better. I'm on about half a dozen lists, and I have never seen the behavior that prompted my posts tolerated elsewhere. Frankly, it wouldn't be tolerated in my son's kindergarten, nor in realtime F2F dealing between normal adults. As a lurker, I enjoy the conversational ebb and flow, the occasional raging torrents, and the eddies and backwaters. There are people here with interesting backgrounds, knowledge, and diverse points of view. Then there's the turd in the punchbowl. I just got tired of it, and tired of lots of other people whose posts I would rather read being bullied into silence themselves. I did not want to uns*b, and could no longer sit idly by given the egregiousness of the last round of garbage. Since this is view is not shared, I will not trouble the list further with it. Let's get on with the footie chat. It helps, I guess, that I know Graeme, and in person he's considerably less spiky than some of his postings.... I'll be attending the April 18 show if anyone living remotely in the area is interested in meeting a fellow Wire fan there. I don't know if there are any CVB fans here, but it's worth a shot. Camper Van Beethoven recently reissued their pre-1988 material (plus a 1990 live show) on a box set entitled Cigarettes And Carrot Juice: The Santa Cruz Years. This box set is five discs for less than $30...it's a great buy for any CVB fan.
