A mate of mine who doesn't remotely like the same music as me once asked me to do a cassette for him to listen to on his motorbike. I filled one side with Neu - Hallogallo, Isi, etc cos I reckon it's the ultimate driving music. He loved it! Meanwhile Giluz said... >Asa Chang & Jun Ray - Jun Ray Song Chang - If you haven't heard or watched >the clip of 'Hana' (featuring the sampled voice of Boredom's Yoshimi p-we) >on PostEverything, then you should. The rest of the album is just as good. Thanks for this Giluz. I've been thinking of getting this album. I have Hana on a free Muzik cd (the one with Flunk doing an acoustic Blue Monday!) and it's fab. Lovely in a choppy, disjointed sort of way. You've probably made my mind up for me! But I was reminded of an evening I spent at the National Film Theatre a few years back in the presence of Julian Cope who was showing a bunch of Krautrock clips. One was of Neu doing Hallogallo - if I recall rightly he said they improvised it there and then on the studio set. Which, if true, is bloody remarkable. Saw Low last night for the first time. They were splendid, and apropos Ian B's recent comments I think it did help having got to know Trust (and to a lesser extent the previous two albums) recently. (I would doubtless have got around to them sooner or later but this is a band I have been spurred to listen to by listers' positive reviews, so thanks). One of the support acts were a band called Coastal (from Utah) who played Low type music. They were OK but kind of uninvolving and it was interesting how much more intense the Low experience was. I was only disappointed that they didn't play their version of Pink Floyd's 'Fearless' which entranced me when I heard it on the Peel session (got it now on the single and have played it repeatedly today). Instead they felt the need to play more romantic songs as it was Valentine's Day. The one thing I didn't expect was how vociferous the audience was. Quiet during songs, sure, but very vocal shouting in between songs, usually for their favourites. Low were playing at the Union Chapel, an ideal setting for their music. Two days earlier Sigur Ros played the Hammersmith Apollo (formerly Odeon) a barn of a place. But somehow managed to turn it into a gloriously uplifting experience. I won't bang on about them here again but they were utterly wonderful. What with them, Low and the Spree in the last week I feel my soul is being well-looked after through rock. This was never the intention was it? Next week - Peter Hammill, a man who sings on his last album that he doesn't believe in God, so that should rectify the position. Another the Keith NP Interpol - Turn on the Bright Lights. Oh, the 80s. - -----Original Message----- From: owner-idealcopy@smoe.org [mailto:owner-idealcopy@smoe.org] On Behalf Of Jason Rogers Sent: 15 February 2003 06:39 To: idealcopy@smoe.org Subject: [idealcopy] Neu! - "Sonderangerbot" Okay, maybe some of you can answer this one: A few days ago, I bought the debut album from Neu! At 72 to 73 seconds into the second track, "Sonderangerbot", there is a sudden sound skip, as if there were a scratch on the CD. It doesn't look like a skip because the time keeps going on the counter and the music resumes just like normal, but it sounds uncanny. I've read that the sound drops/fade outs/etc. on the Neu! CD reissues are intentional, but I wanted to be sure about this one. The album is amazing, though. My favorte tracks are "Hallogallo" and "Negativland", but I always listen to the album as a whole. I already own Neu! 2 and Neu! 75 from a few months ago and feel that, in general, the music of Neu! kicks more ass than Lee Marvin. They were a great band.
