I would certainly recommend seeing Calla in concert when you get a chance. It might be worthwhile to have a pair of earplugs on hand as well. My favorite songs on the new Calla album are the slower ones in the middle, but most people seem to like "Strangler", "Monument", and "Televise" better. All of the songs that I've heard them play live from Televise, however, have sounded great; the songs are a bit more fleshed out onstage. Calla's 2001 album, Scavengers, is worth seeking out as well. Their self-titled debut album is difficult to find, but should be re-released by Arena Records (their new label) soon. Most dates are on sale now. Sid Smith, author of their biography, and Kevin Eden's partner in the forthcoming Brian Eno biography, has compared their new album to Court, Larks, and Discipline in terms of development. Having heard much of the new material live, I suspect that may be over doing it just a bit, but the material by the current quartet is certainly the most inventive of any produced under the name King Crimson in quite some time. (Apologies to US listees, who'll eventually see it when one of your networks has bought it from Granada). All I can say is, what a fuckin' FREAK. OK, as if we didn't know, but this programme laid it out in very disturbing detail. It threw up loads of questions, but the most serious one must be, how can this man be deemed a fit parent, let alone be the guardian of the many other kids that sleep over (i.e. share his bed) in Neverland ? Ugh. Rowdy behaviour on the plane was the official explanation, although unofficial sources have revealed that Ms Love will have being a pain in the arse and fucking up her late husbands head taken into consideration. Either way, her arrest makes one feel proud to be British. As you are all no doubt aware, the authorites have taken taken a dim view of the pop world since it came to light that one in ten of people who had enjoyed chart success in the 1970's was in fact a peodophile. Information that a member of glam rock outfit Slade was contemplating marrying the convicted wife of one of the UK's leading serial killers - who had assisted in the murders and patio burial arrangements herself - was believed to be the final Jack Straw, although other sources voice the opinion that this course of action was due to the fact there were, of course, no male television presenters left to persecute on this fair island. It should be noted, however, that it doesn't end here - mark my words, Mr Spector's arrest by our allies was only the start, as my unreliable source also informs me that Eric Clapton will be subject of an early morning raid for offences against the guitar. Fingers crossed... Over and out.
