Although I rather enjoy the 'tubbies, I am truly scared at the next wave of the Preschool British Invasion. I refer, of course, to The Tweenies. It is comforting to note (quote from Ananova) "The characters will be revoiced using American actors, meaning some British terms on the show will be changed. Climbing frames will be Jungle Gyms, football becomes soccer, "corr" or "cool" will be "wow", and "baddies" will be "bad guys" in the US version." Of course, the same site reports that the UK Eminem tour has sold out. Back at'cha! Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable. The band put on an impressive show that featured songs from this past year's album, Romantica. Toward the end of the show, Luna played the Galaxie 500 song, "Tugboat"; I was hoping to hear some Galaxie 500 material in the set and this pleased me greatly. The reason that I'm posting this here, however, is to pitch a strong recommendation for Luna's opening band, Calla. I first saw Calla in December when they opened for Interpol and was so impressed that bought their 2001 album, Scavengers, at the show and bought their latest album, Televise, when it was released a couple of weeks ago. Calla is a New York band that can probably best be described as a combination of The Jesus And Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, Mogwai, and Unforgettable Fire-era U2. Or, to put it more plainly here, if you guys like Wire's 154 track, "A Touching Display", then you'll probably really enjoy Calla's music. Calla's Televise is the first great album of 2003. Much too much. I will listen to the rest of it before I decide to buy. Thanks. paulye Date: Thu, 30 Jan 2003 09:04:46 -0600 From: Michael Flaherty Subject: [idealcopy] Re: mesmer >From: "Paul Ye" >Subject: [idealcopy] mesmer > >Aside from the way over priced method on Ebay, are there any Mesmer >Variations cd's floating around nowadays? No. I had the mp3's once(the bruce >and graham trax), and thought they were descent and would like to have a >hard copy for the archives. I also wonder if the rest of it is worth >paying silly amounts for. Any thoughts? Well, I love it--one of the best of the "various avant artits" G & B have been involved in--perhaps THE best. That said, if you feel that their tracks are just decent, I'm not sure I would bother. This doesn't come up much on ebay, btw, but I've never seen it go for top collector prices. Keep in mind, it IS an out of print 2 cd set that's unlikely to be reissued, so no, it's not going cheap--usually in the 30-40 $ range. It was the BBC's follow up to Tellytubbies. And it's *much* better too - I'm particularly fond of their racing car song that rips off that Fleetwood Mac track! As for the bit where the Wizard of 'Oz' turns out be a latex Rolf Harris lookalike... My youngest is four. Maybe I've been watching it too much too.
