it -- how does this relate to the (perceived?) plans for r&b's 3 & 4, or
does send supplant them?

No, send seems to be a summation of where WIRE are at NOW after pursuing a C21
compupunk onslaught across more than one continent and also much attention has
been taken to make it flow as an album.

The R&B EPs are short 'close to creation cycle' releases primarily aimed at
the hardcore WIRE fans who want to hear it ALL as soon as they can... you know
the sort, post 20 page Factory reissue Doorsinger eulogies to IC now & then!

I'd guess that send will be a consolidation of apokalypso-digipunk mayhem, and
that R&B03 as and when it emerges will move further away from that... but of
course everything could change

Clearly Mr Gilbert is AMBITIOUS as he says there will be 27 Read & Burns.

I suspect by the time they reach no27, he might let the colour white

This sounds great.

I see so few films that I like nowadays, that I thought I'd just mention
that I just got back from seeing About Schmitd. Obviously this'll be pretty
much old hat for the US listee's, but it's only recently come out over here.
If you like well-scripted movies with decent dialogue and great performances
then give it a go. (Much has been made of Jack Nicholsons downbeat
performance, but for good or for bad, there are still some 'Jack' moments.
And there's a slight hint of the Coen Bros at times too). Excellent film.

Chapter 1: Recording RealAudio music streams
- ---------------------------------------------

In general, you can't.

More specifically, direct stream ripping is impossible unless either a)
the provider lets you, or b) you use an illegal program called a
"stream ripper".

Since I have a few friends who work for RealNetworks, I have never
investigated the latter option, but I've been told they work quite
well. And, you have to have RealPlayerPlus (i.e. the one that costs
money) to utilize the former.

Either way, both of these methods output a RealAudio file (.rm), which
makes editing difficult, unless you have a copy of RealProducer. This
leads us to the second solution.

Namely, you can always record the output of your soundcard, either
by analog or (if you have S/PDIF output and/or a soundcard that
supports digital loopback) by digital means. In fact, in the early
days, I hooked two computers up by their soundcards to record streams.
The advantage to this is that you'll eventually end up with a file in
the ever popular .WAV format, which can be edited quite nicely, and
used to make CDs, etc. However, this does take a small amount of
effort, skill with your soundcard's mixer and a large amount of disc
space to do correctly. And that's way beyond the scope of this small
primer. I'll leave the logistics of this as an exercise for the
reader.
- --------------------------------
Appendix: Windows Media streams
- --------------------------------

Capturing Windows Media streams is very similar. Again, the streams
can not be downloaded directly. However there are rippers available
for that format too, though I wouldn't know anything about them.
(^_^). Output format is called .WMA and is not editable directly. The
comments about recording the output of your soundcard apply here as
well.

Does this help any? (^_^)

Cheers,
Paul
