Jumpin' John messed up the intro to 99.9 by playing a snatch of old=noo rawk revivalists over the top (was it the Bonblondies, the Batsuns or the Boobabores?) At the end the silly ol' sod said he'd forgotten how good 99.9 was... HOW COULD ANYONE FORGET 99.9???? Messages to Peel requesting another WIRE session seem like a good idea. Who else voted for WIRE? This makes a little more sense to me, as January 7 is a Tuesday and records are generally released here in the U.S. on Tuesdays. There may very well be a delay, though. I have to put a good word in for Rhino Records, as that label has impressed me with their recent reissues. The Echo And The Bunnymen box set, the reissues of the first six X albums, the Post-punk Chronicles collection, The U.S. release of the Joy Division box set, etc. Rhino is a great label for that type of thing. Back to the subject of Wire, I spotted reviews of Wire's Read & Burn 01 and 02 both in the latest issue of Maxim Blender. Read & Burn 01 received four stars while 02 received three stars. I'll try an find a link to the actual review online if I can. Of course, by informing all of you of these reviews, I'm admitting freely that I read Maxim Blender, but just bear with me here. I saw an issue of Blender and was stunned by how non-shitty the music reviews were. They seemed to review enough interesting stuff that small records actually got rated on how much the reviewer liked them, unlike the old Rolling Stone system where if an unusual record got reviewed at all, it ALWAYS got three stars. a ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V5 #432 *******************************
