That really sucks about Joe. I only really liked the
first Clash album, but man did I play that one to
death! Liked the first BAD album as well!

And to all the Ideal Copyists, best wishes for the
Holidays and deepest hopes for a peaceful, uneventful

With the exception of some amazing and LOUD Wire

Yup - I can confirm this story. I read in one of the music magazines that
1) Mick Jones had joined Joe for a couple of Clash encores at a recent
Mescaleros gig, and 2) that was seen as an overture towards a reunion to
play at the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame induction.

Man- it's a shame I'll never get to hear the Clash play live now. I
consider myself fortunate to have been able to see Joe play live last year.

Also - another music magazine had reported that Joe had just about finished
the next (and now I guess last) Mescaleros CD. I'm not sure what state it's
in - it may be demos or finished tracks. Joe said it needed to be
"tightened up" - he didn't want any wasted tracks.

Damn - this is a real loss.

Cheers,
Paul

For those sufficiently interested in The Clash, there are some Damned =
fans reminiscing on the attached link from the Damned website.

 =
http://pub70.ezboard.com/fdamnednonsensefrm1.showMessage?topicID=3D5633.t=
opic

also this from the nme...

BONOand MANIC STREET PREACHERS star NICKY WIRE are leading the tributes =
to JOE STRUMMER, who died yesterday.=20

As reported earlier on NME.COM, one of the most influential rock artists =
of all time died at his home yesterday. He is thought to have suffered a =
heart attack.=20

Bono described The Clash as "the greatest rock band", adding "they wrote =
the rule book for U2. It's such a shock."=20

Manics bassist Nicky Wire is a huge fan of The Clash, earmarking them as =
one of the reasons he wanted to form a group in the first place. He said =
in a statement: "We're shocked and saddened to hear of the sad loss, =
especially at this time of year. Our thoughts are with his family and =
friends."=20

Bob Geldof described Strummer as a "very important musician", telling =
BBC News: "He was a clear contemporary and we were rivals. I believed we =
had to get inside the pop culture - he believed you should always stay =
outside and hurl things at it. We had endless arguments about it. As we =
all got older I realised what a nice person he was. He was a very =
important musician. The Clash will be endlessly influential. They will =
always be one of the deathless rock bands. If they can influence people =
especially in this age of manufactured pop music then God bless him, =
he's left something imperishable."=20

Within the band's inner circle, ex-Clash manager Pete Jenner has spoken =
of the loss. He commented: "The band were one of the best live bands, as =
good as any band I've ever worked with. My overriding memory of him and =
The Clash was that it was never boring."=20

A post mortem is expected tomorrow.=20
