What a transition those albums show - from bellowing 'do the mussolini' to the later dance stuff. This was mirorred in Mallinder's appearance - from grunge to wannabe male model (see sensoria video). IMO the earlier stuff stands up a lot better, perhaps because a lot of it is new to me. Seconds too late sounds just great. Also enjoyed Miles's goat/Crimson post v much. Laughed like a drainpipe. My other football related assault was really unlucky. Travelling back from watching Wrexham (at York I think) in the 70's, we stopped at a motorway service station. One side was closed so we walked over the bridge to the other side just as a coachload of Spurs fan stopped on the way back from their away match. Got a punch in the face, but just kept my head down and walked - into the Ladies. Oh well. Any excuse. Still don't like Tottenham though. Tim's talk of possible DVD contents reminds me that part of Lewis's latest mailshot from the tourbus hints in it's round-about way that Wire's trip to Lljubljana was covered by Slovenian TV. Now, if this can be confirmed, and assuming this means the actual gig, wouldn't that make quite a nice little collector's item if anybody can track it down! And on the subject of TV, I thought the days were gone, but I actually saw an Autechre video on TV the other night. Admittedly on Sci-Fi rather than terrestrial, but you take what you can get (Ganz Graff if anybody's interested) It was on a programme called Headf--ck; (these are the programme makers' coy hyphens, by the way), and is about an hour's worth of short films, animations and music videos. I just went to watch a bit of tv and Interpol were on C4 (Virgins?). Don't know what the track was called, but it was pretty good. Nice choppy riff. Robert: >>did anyone ever find out which Wire bandmember penned which lyrics on both volumes of Read & Burn ???<< Well, if we look at Colin's, Graham's, and Bruce's writing styles in the past, it is a bit easier to guess who did what. We know from that Zine interview that Bruce wrote the lyrics to "Comet" "Agfers" is definitely Lewis - if you have any doubts read the "news from the front" on posteverything "First Fast" - I'm going to bet is Colin's. He tends to write abstract lyrics usually (see : his solo records), and this fits the bill. "Germ Ship" - I'm going to say Lewis "Art of Stopping" - A toss-up, I think it could be any of them "I Don't Understand" - Well, it has some of the old "ally in exile" lyrics doesn't it? I'm not sure at the moment. I'm thinking Colin or Graham. Or Bruce. "Spent" & "99.9" - I'm thinking Graham, the lyrics seem very much of a "writer". "Nice Streets" - Well, it's only line long, It could be any of them "Read and Burn" - I'm going to say Bruce. After "the heaven sent extinction with your name on it", "they can, they might, they will" seems to be a similar threat. "Raft Ants" - son of Kidney Bingos, I'm going to guess they all wrote one verse, very much like "Eardrum Buzz" "Trash/Treasure" - Probably Graham, he *would* write a line like "Do you have the Denistry?". Curious what other people think... ~Michael np dog faced hermans ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 Nov 2002 20:01:04 -0800 (PST) From: Monochromatic Man Subject: [idealcopy] Vote & Burn - Top 100 Great British Artists Hmmm, Funny I didn't see the lads. - --- webmaster@virginradio.co.uk wrote: > Thanks for your vote in the Top 100 Great British > Artists.
