After search lights and an early technical hitch we were straight in to an unrelenting pulsating hour or so of the new incarnation of Wire. But where were the new young guns? I was almost blinded by the light bouncing off the tops of men who have grown too tall for their haircuts. Comet and Read and Burn were the highlights of a gig that was never less than life-affirming. We bounced, we laughed even at the request for 12XU. Two encores and a thank-you Brighton- Rock and Roll! Cheers Andy (sorry to miss the pre-gig drink, disorganised! I even live here) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 08 Nov 2002 09:34:15 -0600 From: Michael Flaherty Subject: [idealcopy] Re: OT Ian McEwan >From: "Eric Klaver" >Subject: RE: [idealcopy] OT Ian McEwan > >Ian McEwan. >///////////////////// > >Did he write "Black Dogs" and "Amsterdam"? Light reading, characters perhaps a little too typical, but some interesting ideas. I lean more toward John Banville (in contemporary fiction). Lookout Europe, it's a comet, coming this way, with Wire's name on it. It's a heaven sent musical event. My God, but their star is burning bright now, you will catch them at their peak, as they read and burn their way across Europe. Brighton was a stunner, left me reeling, totally energised, couldn't sleep a wink last night. I was breakfasted and out of the B&B by 9 this morning, strolling down the beach through the drizzle... ahh that salt air does me good, clear out the cobwebs... It was great to finally meet the other ICers, now I can put faces to the names... It was a good turnout of the IC massive, eh guys? Now I'm back in Dublin, it's 9pm, just in from the airport and fit to collapse... it's bath and bed for me !! Full report for wireviews to follow, in fact it's mostly written, the words chasing themselves across the page as the train throttled back to London, then on to Stanstead, still scribbling as the plane hit the tarmac in Dublin... Got lots of photos right up front too, so looking forward to getting them back from the labs when I finish out the 2nd and 3rd roll ( I used two cameras). zzzzzzzzzzzzzz Fergus _________________________________________________________________ Tired of spam? GREAT TIME! Only just got back - no trains running btwn Crewe and Chester due to alleged flooding. Yeah Yeah... Anyway, Wire played for 5 minutes and did 3 numbers. Well they were that hot, that's what it seemed like! Blistering. I couldn't believe they were on an hour or so. And it was great to meet everyone. Felt a bit 'delicate' this morning, but it was an excellent night! Cheers everyone!!!
