War Day sounded like the Saints circa No, Your Product / This Perfect Day, but cleaner, and with a much less distinctive singer. The New sounds like the Adverts but with a thick over-processed digital distrortion / degeneration, very heavy drums and the slightly weak singer is the only thing that detracts from it slightly. Whilst I'm comparing Rhodes to Adverts & Saints, I'd much rather listen to those bands early records - but maybe they'll come up with something sounding a bit more original, besides process, later on? It's better than Mclusky (well that's damning them with faint praise) but not as great as Silo. "Yes. Faust will forever be heralded as a pioneer in the electronic/rock avant garde, emerging in the early seventies branching off from Brit/American commercial rock bands, employing the use of alterior sonic landscapes to create a new musical tangent." (Alternative Press) For this very special release Staubgold label manager Markus Detmer and Faust member Hans Joachim Irmler compiled unreleased Faust recordings from 1971 to 2002, covering the legendary Wumme Years (1971 - 1973) and the time at Virgin's Manor studios (1974- 1975) as well as their new start in the early 80s and recent years. Compiled as a collage, as the title suggests, "Patchwork" unfolds the core qualities of Faust and gives a deep impression of their working method. "It was their persistence in the entirety of their trip that makes them so legendary now." (did The Voice Of America come out that year ? Though, Red Mecca is probably my favourite Cabs LP). Some of my favourite films came out that year too - Stalker, Apocalypse Now, Alien... What was it about that year ? Meanwhile, belated birthday bleatings to our Keith... hope ye had a good 'un mate... and early greetings to another the Keith (well you didn't give us a date),and to Andrew and Chris... Mark B, am I right in thinking your birthday is imminent also ? With myself turning 38 ten days ago, that makes quite an obstinate clot of October people on this list... George Harrison's ELECTRONIC SOUND was described by Harrison himself as "boy meets machine". He had no idea what he was doing. Yet ... it's not bad, and was unusual for the 1960s. This was during a short lived period when Harrison and Lennon were trying to be very avant garde, and perhaps finding that it's a lot harder than it sounds. (I like some of what they did, but it IS obviously rich rocks stars playing at being experimental.) There's a cite called "8trackheaven.com that has a good 3 minute sample. Not sure it's their *best* (Vega/Rev will take some beating IMO), but the new Suicide album, American Supreme is BRILLIANT! There's one track I'm not so keen on (the Dachau Disney Disco cacophany), but otherwise...Colossal!!! From the opening Televised Execution with it's 'scratching' intro, this is one seriously funky album. On TE it's almost as if they've decided they want to be Sly & the Family Stone! Needless to say, they still sound like Suicide - how could they not with Vega doing that twisted take on Elvis that he's perfected over the years. Just funkier. Definitely a contender for album of the year IMO... I guess the main question has already been answered, so I'll just throw in my 0.02USD. I got that "Dome" album a few years ago and was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't great, but wasn't too bad either. At that time they didn't have anything on the web (still don't! www.cursorclub.com is mostly blank). So I wrote a letter to the label, they emailed me back, and we emailed back and forth off and on for a few months. The label is based in LA. They wouldn't identify who was in the band, since they wanted listeners to focus on the music. I suspect that the label and the band are the same people. Anyhow, they never heard of Dome (the B&G one, that is), but they did know of Wire. They changed their name to cc:Dome for their 2nd album, "Dream Furious". I got that one too and it's also OK. - --- RLynn9@aol.com wrote: > In a message dated 10/23/02 2:10:21 PM Central Daylight Time, > RLynn9@aol.com > writes: > > << << phew! > the cursor club > >> > > please explain..... > > i don't understand > > go ahead > RL > >> > > i looked up the information...The Cursor Club is a label... > RL Y!
