Yes I think so or it could have been World Record. They issued about 3 albums in quick succession around that time. Also must mention the live double album which also bowled me over.As for Talking Heads - Fear Of Music & Remain In Light are the standouts for me.What a fun time 77 & 78 was for an acne ridden rebellious yoof with no money & time on his hands ! It's a 6-track album released (over here) on Domino. The first two and last two tracks are simply sublime IMO (and the other two aren't bad either). The lengthy closing track Moonbeams is just amazing in a quiet yet gut-wrenching kind of way. There's a Slint connection, but it reminds me of Joy Division comparison - Imagine a JD following Closer with a more spacious, yet somehow claustrophobic, sound and that's how it feels to me. Soulful in the true sense of the word, Paul. I'm convinced that people are gonna start talking of this as a true classsic in yrs to come. And, no, there's no > Wire - both Pink Flag and 154 would be in the next ten /////well to each their own keith , but to rate the fall-by-numbers of "slanted and enchanted" over 154........you surprise me. i was similarly surprised at dan's inclusion of "no more heroes" album tracks like dagenham dave and dead ringer in a stranglers "best of" listing ; i have some time for 3 of the first 4 stranglers albums but to me NMH is a horrible rushed out thing that sounds like they tossed it off in fear of their bandwagon derailing before they'd paid the advance back. i suppose i should now do my own top 10 so keith and dan can retaliate but sorry i find these things so difficult to do , comparing old stuff with new i just find it imppossible to do any kind of rating system. but i will try , have patience. p ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Oct 2002 14:17:29 -0700 From: Paul Pietromonaco Subject: [OT] The for Carnation (was Re: [idealcopy] being for the benefit of sgt pepper) >> >9. I haven't got a list, but I have got ONE! I was haunting a second hand record shop (as you do) some time ago, and noticed a customer trying to offload a pile of records to the shop. So, naturally I looked over his shoulder to see if there was any Wire in the pile. Mostly they were crap, but in amongst it was an *original* copy of the Masters Apprentices "Choice Cuts". Now, I happen to collect Australian 'progressive rock' records (early '70s): there are some very rare, and there are some outrageously rare, issues from the period and this Master's one falls into the former group- worth around 30 to 40 UK pounds ($50+ US$$$) in nice condition. My eyes lit up when I saw the pristine sleeve, and I waited to see what happened........ The shopkeeper finished looking at the pile of records and said........."Sorry I can't use any of these"! I follewed the customer out and said to him: "Hey, I'll give you $10 (Oz dollars) and the guy said: YOU CAN HAVE IT!!!! So, that's how I got "Choice Cuts" in near mint condition for FREEEEE.
