Ya know, I find it so wonderful and endearing to find out here that there
are people who not only sing Dome songs to themselves, but who sing them
together and to each other. Just picture that. It's a fine, wacky world
after all.

> yes...poop is one of the greatest words in the English language.....i

Its not in the English Language, Its an Americanism. I prefer the good old
fashioned 'shite'.

Anyway, 24 Hour Party People is a very messy film, full of characters that
you could make a fascinating biopic of (Martin Hannett, Shaun Ryder, Ian
Curtis, Rob Gretton) who flash on and off the screen at random while the
focus is on Wilson. And they didn't get the haircut quite right.
Ian looks too old, Wilson looks too young, ACR look too cool, Bruce
Mitchell, Section 25 and Crispy Ambulance aren't in it and its 20 minutes
too long.

Still, millions of people now know who Vini Reilly is.

And Howard Devoto's cameo is very funny.

There's a pretty good documentary that was screened on Channel 4 before it
came out...and I suspect that will be on the DVD. Hooky recounts the
Hacienda accountancy hell and gets a bit tearful....touching stuff.

It was pitiful!
Enfield looks v.uncomfortable in the role. He's supposed to be playing a
fading 70s rock star..but he just can't cut it. Its very badly written (lots
of out-of-date cultural references to The Spice Girls etc) and the
supporting cast are terrible, especially the woman who plays his wife.
I bet the script-writers were gutted when they saw 'The Osbournes' with Ozzy
doing it all for real, only ten billion times funnier.

Shame. I like Enfield's earlier, funnier stuff. The Kevin & Perry 'Oasis'
sketch is still a classic.
And 'Smashie and Nicey' were a genius comic creation (ultra-sharp
observation of UK Radio DJs).
I defy anyone on this list not to laugh at his re-creation of the Sex
Pistols/Bill Grundy incident with Dave Nice superimposed over the original
clip in the Bill Grundy role....("Will you say 'Shit' for this wad of
cash?").

Subject: Re: [idealcopy] Peel/irving plaza/oxes get dressed and put on a show

hey hey hey everybody,

first, thanks for the recommendations on recording streams of peel.

next, i'll get back to wire in a sec...

lots of emails to go through from the past two days, but i noticed one about
the oxes shirts. i thought it was pretty funny once i saw that their guitars
were wireless. the thing that "buggered" me (i shoulda typed boogered) more
was that matt from oxes went fishing in his nose and flung his catch onto the
stage. at least he didn't go into the audience with that! otherwise, the two
guitarists spent much of the set roaming through the crowd, balcony included.
kinda neat. i think they're strictly a live band though. i had listened to
some of their songs a few weeks ago and wasn't too impressed. oh yeah, and
all three of em were wearing dresses.

now wire! oh man. what a great show. i enjoyed 2000 a lot, but enjoyed this
much more. i purposely tried not to get much info from reviews here, and i
wonder if not knowing as much about the tour made it that much more
enjoyable. i just had my first listen to r&b02 (great of course) and i think
they played all of it. i'm not 100% sure about trash/treasure though...maybe
they just played /treasure! the intro 99.9 lewis/gilbert cable fingering and
colin stalking and bouncing alternately was a great opener. people around me
were reaching for their earplugs before colin even got out on stage! robert,
what can i say, give the man his props. incredible. he's definitely got the
hardest job up there. it was colin's turn to blow his amp. things got fixed
pretty quickly, and the overall sound was good. i was a bit surprised at the
smallness of the guitar amps, but i think mesa boogies are generally smaller
than the equivalent competition, so looks can be deceiving. they sure sounded
cranked! and graham! i'm surprised he didn't blow another head!! spent,
comet, art of stopping were all highlights. 1st fast had to have clocked in
at under a minute. set ended with an incredible i don't understand. i didn't
expect colin would be singing the verse himself.

and the encore went, and the encore went: advantage, reuters, lowdown...then
back for pink flag.

i was bouncing the whole time. i think my internal organs still are. the road
ahead looks quite appealing :o)

for demonstration purposes) when in halifax i saw an ad in the paper that the
lounge lizards were playing a local club one of the nights my wife and i were
there. so i drag the wife down, promising her it will be much more enjoyable
than the swans or the damned (will i ever stop feeling guilty for taking her
to those?)...anyway, we pay at the door, enter, order our drinks, sit around
a bit, and then the announcer welcomes everyone to "lounge lizards" the
club's name for their karaoke night! we left after the guy who did harry
chapin. we laughed a lot on the way back to the hotel.

however, good news and bad news. the next night we went to this underground
(literally in a basement) club and saw another harry chapin wannabe, followed
by one of the best bands (not previously known to me) that i've ever seen.
they were a 50/50 mix of the fall and joy division without sounding like they
were ripping off either band! it was incredible. bad news wasn't the opening
act, it's that i forgot what their name was...for some reason i wanna
remember it as "blue bottles" but i'm just not sure and have never heard
anything about a band called blue bottles since, so :o( any thoughts on
this one from canadian copyists? or do we have a canadian post punk anorak

It's Dutch!

Since medieval times the Dutch have used the word "poep" wich is pronounced
in exactly the same way [and used with an equal amount of pleasure].
What can you say... our whole country is literally covered with it - endless
pastures of cowdung and streets full of dogshite.

Nothing has made such an impact as the first 3 Wire albums at the end of the
70's [but I'm sure that has also something to do with my age back then - 15
in 1978].
It was just so very very important... and a strange thing was almost
everybody didn't like it... AT ALL!! Untill I joined this list I could only
share it with my older brother, my best friend and, later on, my girlfriend
[who on our first date told me she really liked Wire and if I had heard of
them! I was... flabbergasted and hooked].

Wire#2 made me very happy in a time when there wasn't much good music around
[pre-pixies I mainly listened to the Jesus & Mary Chain, Nick Cave, Sonic
Youth and the Smiths]. Serious of Snakes, Madman's Honey and Ahead stood
out. Those were my artschool days and Wire fitted in "nicely", with their
Beuys & Bosch obsessions.

Wire#3... well, I'm still a bout de souffle! It gives me a rush of
enthousiasm and energy every time. Comet, Trash/Treasure and Spent are fave.
Can't wait till I'll see them [for the very first time] in november.

I like how most people just ignore what is on screen. They have no
familiarity with MIchael Winterbottom's other films. They have a vague idea
of a would-be film. Nobody twisted your arm to go see this. If you want to
see a documentary film, go somewhere else. This is a narrative film. Make
your own fucking film. I will not bother to see it. Nobody bothered to read
the book which the film is based on. There's been a lot of dumb rock films
with lame wigs. That shit has been done. This is another movie. One you have
ignored.
