I have a video interview with them. There's two of 'em - Fischer & Spooner. Neither of whom seemed particularly fat. I'll go back and watch it again. Reunions are scarey things - whether family based or otherwise. Went to a school one the day of the ICA gig - all added up to one brain-twisting experience. Whatever happened to George 'fucking' Wallace? Didn't he do a massive U-turn and become a supporter of civil rights? (Did a dissn at Univ on third party politics in the US and got interested in the subject). Glad you like Fischerspooner's 15th, Dan - so do I. But thought their UK TOTP appearance trod a very fine line between the inspired and the ridiculous. And the album as a whole ain't much cop IMO. Perhaps the peel session version will be easier to decipher? trash/treasure - another excellent track, merging all three wire eras into one song. It's got the guitar tone from 154, the sweet melodic edge of 80s wire, and an ending which dissolves into the electronic blitzkrieg punk of present wire. i think this track marks the first time colin has prominently showed off his falsetto? it sounded really alien to me at first, but now i want more of it! nice streets - probably my least favorite at the moment, but that demonic chanting is addictive. raft ants - very fast & very shouty with a great off kilter drum pattern from robert. as craig noted in his wireviews review, the way the melody/lyrics are set up makes it seem the bastard offspring of "kidney bingos". 99.9 - incredible, a true wire classic. The first R&B song to really have room to breathe and when the drums kick in halfway through, it really devastates. my only complaints are that the vocals could've been a bit more upfront in the mix and there could've been a singing build up to the shouting in "spent". so, i've been working out the lyrics to some of the tracks, here's what i got so far, feel free to add any suggestions/corrections.... >Read & Burn read and burn and you never know never they can they might they can they will >Spent (i've only got the first few lines down, colin really eschews pronunciation here!) exiled in paradise religious extremism toxic stimulation in thought radiation bloating the price quick say quick fix constant inverse screaming doesn't mix with signal ratio all time violent everywhere...... >Nice Street Above nice streets, the nice streets, the nice streets above (repeated over and over with some colin ad-libbing thrown in between) >Raft Ants (another one that thrives on the incomprehension factor) no tax sales tax feed my heart attack want bread eat fish eat bread feel the pain on guard brother starving look up what we got/could ? ? ? ? overflow don't control ? round hair smoked hair tear those sycophants idiola coca cola if you sign with my motorola funky moon looney tune want some king's food cheap love from above got to draw basketball sgt. right want to fight prime time people (ok, i doubt that this is the real line!) cheap preacher wife beater on the air over beater/heater lawn mower flame thrower watch out whistle blower cheap ?cups lie where? space that we have >99.9 face never skirted sense man has a wooden master chewing makes you anxious monkey neglected the needle pulsating venus on my sonar a cord in temptation, bi-symmetry in event of lightning striking twice the road ahead looks quite uncertain.... (drums kick in - whole verse is repeated) near the end colin seems to say: "at night you sprain me, only you only you only you" right before the drums kick in again. one last thing - has anyone heard the new split single by erase errata and the numbers? real killer "no wave" style stuff, but more notably, the 55 second numbers track "palo alto" randomly starts chanting "drill drill drill dugga dugga dugga" right in the middle for no apparent reason. a curio. ~michael ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V5 #298 *******************************
