A clone of himself became Carrion. The cloning backfired a bit - he turned bad, hence the name [Amazing Spiderman 129]. Btw, it's not really a classic, this one - it's sorta blacklisted. I was more into "euro-comics" like the early Asterix, Tintin and Blueberry & such. Comics certainly layed the foundation for me to go to artschool. For a few years I even developped a newspaper-cartoon series called Socrates wich was set in historical/mythological Greece [no, it was not elitist], but as with lots of my occupations I did'n't hang in there enough to get it published. Was fun to do, though not as much fun as the series of porn-sites I was asked to design last month ;-) Sometimes I still make the odd cartoon for a relative who has a business in printed T-shirts, mugs and such. Hell, a few years ago it even was my "core-business!" ;-) Oh... and PLEASE! ...no more crude Clash-editting! Really, I can't take it anymore! Never got into the superhero American stuff at all. Don't actively dislike it, and admire the craft of its drawings, but conceptually it leaves me cold. Likewise "graphic novels". Of the 80s comic books the only one I had any time for was Love & Rockets, precisely because it wasn't superhero/sci-fi based. > >>Tiger & Jag, Scorcher, Score 'n' Roar - and they're just the sports one.<< Liked the sports ones a lot - though soon graduated to Shoot, the first "proper" magazine I had (my dad used to nick it and take it to work!). Definitely a cartoon George Best...) Half the > family supported City, half United. Eventually the publishers ran out of > ideas and had them both playing for the same team. Shame...<< Excellent. Remember it well, especially when they both played for England. Jack was a boring bastard wasn't he. Bit like Bobby Charlton... Note to non-UK listers who might still be reading this drivel. Bobby Charlton holds the record for goalscoring for England. But he's mainly remembered for his principal physical trait - the fact that he was bald, but attempted to concel his slap-headedness by means of an elaborate comb-over. This was fine until he headed the ball (usually in the first minute of the game), resulting in disruption of his carefully-constructed tonsure, and leaving a long hank of wet hair hanging down from just above one ear, on to his shoulder, or flailing behind him as he ran. Of course the other thread of 60s comics were the war/adventure ones. WW2 was still very much in the public consciousness at that time, and these comics had thrived in the 50s. Fantastic names like Hotspur, Victor and Valiant. Politically incorrect in extreme, especially Captain Hurricane, who always gave Jerry a good biffing (sorry, Frank from Bavaria!). These led on to the Commando war stories - little book-sized 50-age comics which had a language of their own. 'Eat lead, Fritz!' "Donner und Blitzen!" Rat-tat-tat-tat-tat!!!! Aaaiiieeee!!!! etc. Still going too, though I guess they're just endlessly reissued, probably with added political rectitude. Many years later, when I worked for IPC (the publishers of these books) I went to a union meeting which was addressed by a very old man with white hair and a handlebar moustache, who announced himself as being from the "youth magazines division", which raised a good laugh from the audience... Turned out he was the guy who did the Comando books. Excellent!
