Hi here is a question for all those anoraks out there. Can anyone recall reading any articles on Wire's choice of Guitar/Amp back in the early days and also what they prefer now? Looking at the old photos, it looks like they went for the Fender style of guitar instead of one with Humbucking Pickups such as a Gibson Les Paul. So how did they achieve that 'chugga chugga' sound that we all know and love? Must have been through the use of a valve amp? Early Roxy Photos suggest they were maybe Vox AC-30's? I am the Fly is documented as having an Effect that Bruce found in Colin's peddle. Other than that, I can't recall any articles on their choice of gear. But have you ever heard or seen Graham "Play the drum!"????? Maybe he does a bit of percussion on some of those old Dome recordings? He did a small percussion accompaniment to the end of the interview I did with WIRE at the Garage, whilst Bruce threw his voice from various oblique angles. Bruce also picked an interesting sounding location in the hacienda when I interviewed him just before the Gilbertpossstenger Disobey. Where does performance begin and end? There is also this phenomenon to watch out for when WIRE go on tour - - Dome Jaw Despite Newman getting most of the shoutybloke action, the jaws of Lewis and Gilbert seem to move more whilst WIRE make a noise.
