The lyrics quoted by Mr Devlin did seem crap...<< It's actually rather good. I saw these a coupel of weeks ago in London. Somewhere between The Cure, Modern English and Galaxie 500, and with enough looks and style (circa 1980 - black shirts, skinny ties, Karl Bartos haircuts) to give them a decent chance of breaking through on the coat tails of the Strokes et al. In fact they're arguably the Strokes older and more intense brothers, with an immeasurably cooler record collection. Yer man devlin is correct in urging you not to compare Interpol with Joy Division - but they've certainly heard Joy Division. And seen pictures of them ;-) NME gives the gig I saw a positive review this week and correctly positions them as an American equivalent to British Sea Power (who can do a decent JD impression). BSP are more interesting, though Interpol sound prettier. So now we've made it to 1980. The Strokes and the Hives with their 78 noo wave retread riffs look positively old hat. Next week, we reach 1982, and NME will discover the new Kid Creole. A colourless question if ever there was one, but fwiw, the effects in Phantom Menace were crap too. Someone who couldn't be closer to the band (he's in it) states somewhat enigmatically that support at ICA this Saturday will be "Not a band but a bunch of Wire associated arty bollocks." 2. Wire will record a new session for John Peel on Sunday. Presumably this will be broadcast in early August? Hint: Peel often lists the futureweek's sessions during the last half hour of his Thursday evening show. This Thursday Finnish 3drum progpeddlars Circle will be in session, which will be a good one to catch if you're in near a radio.
