I have no singles in the pipeline but I have a track on a recently released compilation Laboratory Series 2 www.planetsounds.co.uk Alongside other luminaries of the moribund Manchester experimental scene such as Mild Man Jan, Villa 21, Andi Chapple, The Ball, Illuminati & Bess Keloid. >>>Our new EP will be available through Goooques in Agut. Check our website for details. Like fuck I will! I get Swim stuff to review, you can fuckin' well give me your single if you want me to listen to it! >>>Its probably too mainstream for your ears, dear. So you're expecting to hit the Top 40 with it? Just keep watching the HMV racks. >>>Its probably too mainstream for your ears, dear. No worries then, there's plenty much more interesting stuff to listen to instead if that's the case. like http://www.webinfo.co.uk/crackedmachine/zero21.htm ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 Jun 2002 15:36:40 +0100 From: "Bill Hick" Subject: [idealcopy] SYR SYR 1 (red sleeve) is probably easiest to get into of all their own label releases. I'd start there and move forward. It's hard to imagine anyone who likes Daydream Nation being disappointed by this exceptional recording. SYR 2 (blue sleeve) Is mainly two long jams that later spawned Female Mechanic & Snare Girl for 1000 Leaves, but these more sprawling freeform instrumental versions seem more enjoyable really. The last track is a slightly annoying Kim Gordon short throwaway nonsense rhyme. SYR3 Is over an hour long & very freeform. Goodbye 20th Century Is worth hearing for the intense slowburn James Tenney thing & the original Pauline Oliveros piece composed especially for the band. Elsewhere it's mostly quite interesting but likely to wind up rock & 'contemporary classical' purists alike. The Steve Reich cover is the only one that doesn't work for me at all. Michael didn't mention the SKR silver session disc which is all feedback recordings with some fucked up beatbox rhythms buried in it. Thurston Moore rates it as one of his favourite Sonic Youth releases, and I'd have to agree. If you like dense guitar feedback, get it. There are various SY rarities up for download at www.sonicyouth.com Cracked Machine Highly Irregular Cyberzine http://www.webinfo.co.uk/crackedmachine NP Enon - High Society (Touch & Go) http://www.epitonic.com/artists/enon.html (shuts down computer, jumps out window, runs to city centre, leaps on coach, mashes it up in Leeds w/Enon) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 Jun 2002 15:35:22 +0100 From: "Bill Hick" Subject: [idealcopy] Why Lie in the Mouth of Infinity? Tim kidded in pig ignorance >>>Won't be using this song title now. Otherwise hundreds of strange, shaven, earnest looking men called Gavin will come to our gigs expecting to have their brains pummelled by industrial hellnoise...only to get 30 minutes of our cutey-pie ambient fluff accompanied by our holiday slides. Doubtful, since 'White Light from the Mouth of Infinity' is one of Swans more acoustic guitar driven albums, very song orientated and pretty far from so called 'industrial hell noise.' I doubt Swans ever identified themselves with the 'industrial' thing either, but they did make a noise. On the occasions I heard them it was more of transcendent, uplifting and beatific experience than hellish. There were lots of women at their last gig. Not sure how many earnest shaved men called Gavin there were, but there was at least one called Mark and at least one called David. Neither bothered to shave their heads for the occasion. Are you able to guess women's bnames from the bands they like too? Is it a useful uncool mainstream skill perfected by normal people? *Grinding the Rumour Mill Looking at the brainwashed.com message board, I read a Swans discussion in the course of which someone claimed that Jarboe had recently attacked Michael Gira with a butcher's knife. Apparently he is a bit upset about this and has asked that nobody mention her or her website on the Young God site message board. (The TimKid will love this) The same person says that jarboe now lives in what he describes as 'a yuppie commune' whatever that is. Living with 'yuppies' would probably be enough to turn anyone violent... Of course this is just someone on the internet who might be making it all up... More interestingly, Michael Gira has maintained such a high standard with releases for other artists on the Young God label that a lot of them surpass his Angels of Light albums, which fit more with the White Light / Love of Life Swans albums, acoustic guitars, traditional songform. I've been mightily impressed by the albums from Calla Ulan Bator Flux Information Sciences Larsen It's just a shame that all their earlier albums are nigh on impossible to find in the UK (if it ain't in our big book, we can't order it). There were Realaudio excerpts of all these albums up last time I checked at www.younggodrecords.com There's also a very interesting interview with Flux Information Sciences. Ooh - touche - you're on to my scheming remarks.
