[Tim ] Re: [idealcopy] Crossing the Emoticon [Bart van Damme Subject: [idealcopy] chart bound wir I can remember hearing So and Slow being played as one of Radio One's records of the week by some evening DJ. I was working part-time in an off-license at the time, the Wire book had not been out long and I found it mildly amusing that Radio One were 'bigging it up' and it just scraped the top 40. Ah well. ===== kevin eden e-mail: wmouk@yahoo.com web: www.wireviews.com "dreams that money can buy" Yahoo! - Official partner of 2002 FIFA World Cup http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 Jun 2002 11:32:35 +0200 From: Bart van Damme Subject: Re: [idealcopy] Re: Sonic Youth > Daydream Nation > Sister > Goo > Evol > Bad Moon Rising Few years agoo I got Sonic Youth live in Venlo Holland 27-12-'83. I meant the series >of EP length CD's they've released on their own label in recent years. More >experimental stuff apparently. Much more so. OK... Syr 1, 2, and 3 are free-jams, very little vocals. Each is a bit longer than the one before. #4 (Goodbye 20th Century) is a 2 cd set of "covers" of major avant garde composers of the last century. (Cage, Woolf, Reich, etc ... including a good sceam from Coco Moore credited to Yoko Ono). As most of these compositions are random I use the word "covers" loosely--performances may work better. #5 is a Kim Gordon solo album w/ DJ Olive. All 5 are so great that I couldn't imagine rating them ... but that's not very helpful, so I'll say start w/ SYR 3 (first w/ Jim, btw), work back to #1. If your still interested, move to #4 and 5. Unless of course the description of 4 or 5 is particularly inviting ... . :) Michael Flaherty ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 Jun 2002 23:00:25 +0100 From: "ian.s. jackson" Subject: Re: [idealcopy] Crossing the Emoticon Bert... >8-P [madman's honey] ...cheeking tongues, surely...(^_^) ian.s.j. _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 Jun 2002 17:09:17 -0500 (CDT) From: voyteck@webtv.net Subject: [idealcopy] GENIUS! Actually, Song titles aren't copyrighted. I own at least three different songs called 'Come Together'. Wire aren't the only band in the world to write a song called 'Heartbeat'. Buddy Holly did it first. Steps did a song called Heartbeat too. According to stats, so did Don Johnson (yes him off Miami Vice!) and The Grid...although those may have been covers of Buddy Holly version. Even band names don't seem to be copyrighted! Nirvana anyone? And there are two bands called Wir. Anyway thanks for the info. Won't be using this song title now. Otherwise hundreds of strange, shaven, earnest looking men called Gavin will come to our gigs expecting to have their brains pummelled by industrial hellnoise...only to get 30 minutes of our cutey-pie ambient fluff accompanied by our holiday slides. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 Jun 2002 20:47:24 EDT From: MarkBursa@aol.com Subject: Re: [idealcopy] RE: We're having that as a song title! Their roots are, I think, in Luc Ferrarri and the New York School, but they have a much harder edge. Afterwords, I bought a handful of cds from Noetinger and have not been disappointed. Noetinger sounds like one to hear sometime soon! I have a CD on Selektion by L Marchetti & Ralf Wehowsky which is quite impressive in that they take mostly sine tones through electroacoustic mutations and both end up with different unique soundscapes which are intriguing and difficult, intense & rewarding. I have heard only one Luc Ferrari CD ' Unheimlich Schon' which is 15 minutes of a woman repeating the German phrase for unnatural beauty. The effect is both disconcerting and erotic.
