Well, d+b is my fave genre, so I'll stop lurking for a mo.... I wouldn't pretend for a moment that the two d+b tracks on "Bastard" were more than an interesting interpretation of the form. Or, more precisely, an interesting use of basslines and breakbeats, as d+b had already become much more clipped and harsh (and, to an extent, dull) by that time. But, to my mind, they *were* an interesting interpretation, adding a healthy helping of Colin's pop nous to some fairly lively beats. They were a personal view rather than an imitation, and I still consider "Turn" to be pretty damn fine. Besides, I seem to remember that yer man once named Ed Rush's monumental "Killamanjaro" (sic) in some kind of top ten, in which case he was certainly listening to enough d+b to know where the action was. His tracks sound *nothing* like that, nor should they. I'll freely admit to some snobbery in my dislike of it, but what I heard of "New Forms" struck me as being pretty lame and, compared to what others were doing, rather commercialised. Granted, I may not have listened to it in such a charitable frame of mind as I listened to "Bastard"....
