Have I missed something? Is this a quote from Colin talking about the Wire show at ATP? First time I saw GSBYE they were spellbinding. It was in room above a mexican restaurant and if I'm not mistaken ex-Idelcopyist Graeme Rowland was involved in organising the shambolic shindig. There was a 90 minute gap after the support band whilst GSYBE set up their gear on the floor in front of the 100 or so people present. The 10 or members then played almost eye-to-eye with the audience, through their amps and a little vocal PA to a hushed crowd. Very intimate and exciting. You had to wait for the loud bits to buy a beer in case the till made too much noise over the music. Second time was at the first ever ATP at Camber Sands (Then called The Bowlie Weekender) and I opted to watch GSYBE instead of headliners Belle & Sebastian (tedious cutey-pie student wankfest...or The Beautiful South without the beerguts if you ask me)..and once again they were awesome but louder. Third time they played for 2.5 hours and proved beyond doubt that you can have too much of a good thing. I'd also brought 3 friends along to hear this great band, and I can't blame them for being bored silly by the end. Presumably this was the set they did at the Scala. No band should play for more than 90 minutes. The Badly Drawn Boy plays three hour sets. Nuff said. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 Apr 2002 21:29:39 EDT From: MarkBursa@aol.com Subject: Re: [idealcopy] ot- eyeless in gaza You'll enjoy it... Mark >>1. (untitled) - This is a piece based on DJ Fuckoff9s* remix of drill. This will be an occasional treat best shown off at ATP as we did the 1st 3 minutes shining very powerful torches into a darkened audience . 2. Read & Burn (new) 3. Germ ship (from R&B 01) 4. Mr. Marx9s Table (new) 5. 1st Fast (from R&B 01) 6. Agfers of Kodack (from R&B 01) 7. Comet (from R&B 01) 8. In The Art of Stopping (from R&B 01) 9. 10 years after (new) 10. I Don9t Understand (from R&B 01) ATP went well, we filled the top (main) room - which was no mean achievement as we probably had the hardest match of any on the bill which was the enormously popular Godspeed You Black Emperor downstairs. * My , ahem, DJ handle - I know....my sense of humour will get me in trouble one of these days :) If anyone is in London next w/e I9d recommend the Garage on Sunday night, a triple bill of loud, shouty and young bands (Liars, mcluskey & yeah yeah yeahs) cheers Colin<< ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Apr 2002 10:07:25 -0500 From: "dan bailey" Subject: Re: [idealcopy] ot- eyeless in gaza saw that one used myself a few weeks ago, but its omission of the only song of theirs that's ever blown me away -- the feeling's mutual (courtesy of either hicks from the sticks or heat from the street) -- led me to skip over it. dan >You'll enjoy it... > >Mark > ><< So after musing on them for a bit, I went to a local > record store and found "Voice - The Best of Eyeless in > Gaza" for $9.00! (^_^) I picked up the latest Elbow CD here in the 'states. It's being heavily pushed as an answer to Catherine Wheel, oddly enough. In fact, that's why I picked it up. Vocally, he's a dead ringer for Rob Dickinson, that's for sure. But, I think the 8 remaining Catherine Wheel fans might be a tad disappointed in the lack of crashing guitar solos. (^_^) Kinda like it - not fully convinced yet. Cheers, Paul. ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V5 #128 *******************************
