Saw them at the Junction in Cambridge: apart from Guy Garvey having a superb way with hecklers, there were some rather good other lines he came out with. "So how was your Sunday? Ours wasn't too bad; had a beer, watched Eastenders, war broke out...." - this the day after the US had started bombing Afghanistan. "Asleep in the Back" might be my favourite Elbow song. Elbow and Doves certainly seem to be heralding a return of big, emotional music right now; I like both bands, but it remains to be seen if any of the next wave (Haven, this means you) can turn out to be any cop. "The Last Broadcast" (Doves) should be good, if the first single off it is anything to go by. Of course, both Elbow and Doves have described themselves as prog: the NME are hyping up anything they can find as the new punk, which means something hopefully will come out of left field and blindside us (and them) all :) Andrew - -- "Days of the conflicts you've been in; Traces of conscience you don't want to hear..." - - Rival Schools, "Used for Glue" ('United by Fate') adw27@cam.ac.uk (academic) | http://www.lexical.org.uk ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Apr 2002 19:02:48 -0700 (PDT) From: Na Na Subject: [idealcopy] Track I.D.
