Someone quite rightly said here (and I'm sorry I don't remember who) that trying to recommend VDGG/PH to anyone is practically impossible because the music has become so much part of his life. I think this is true of recommending most music. I recently played some (what I think was excellent) King Crimson to some people (didn't I Paul and Mark?) and they just sat looking bewildered and perplexed. I can't blame them. If they have no point of reference to come to the music then why should I expect them to enjoy it. In fact I've given up recommending any music to anyone. Yes, I enthuse about certain things but at the end of the day isn't all about taste, expectation etc? In the last 10 years or so some friends have made recommendations to me. I have dutifully gone away and checked them out. And you know what. 9 time out of 10 times I didn't like it. Only two recommendations that spring to mind have stuck: Nils Petter Molvaer and Arvo Part. All other discoveries have been made by myself. Now what all this says or means I don't know. I'm sure everyone will agree that music is such a personal thing, with a lot of other things tied up with it. And yes we can all jump up and down on our own soap-boxes and demand to be heard (along with the music) but I remain unconvinced that only the truly brave and open minded will follow into the unknown. ===== kevin eden wmo, po box 112, stockport, cheshire, sk3 9fd, uk e-mail: wmouk@yahoo.com web: www.wireviews.com "dreams that money can buy" Yahoo! I'm guessing that Amazon's price is pretty darn close to what they paid for it. They don't have a very big profit margin at Amazon. In fact, they sometimes take a loss on certain items and make up for it other places. Either that, or they got a discount by buying in bulk, and are passing the savings on to you! (^_^) That is a pretty sweet deal for the end consumer, though. Cheers, Paul. Great venue as well. Excellent turn-out from the IC Massive, great to meet you all. (Uri, Alastair - mail me off-list please?) Just to whet your appetite, as I'm sure there will be some more in depth analysis on it's way. Started with all four members playing guitars to a huge pulsing backing tape. (Yes, all four members, admittedly Robert's was bottle-neck tuned!) Encored without leaving the stage with Lowdown & Pink Flag some 50 minutes later. In between? Four tracks from R&B. Not Agfers or Germ Ship. To quote another the Keith - "'Art of Stopping' is already mutating" in the Wire tradition. All the other stuff sounded new, fresh and of the same intensity as R&B 01, but I stand to be corrected of any mutations in there. R&B 02 can't be very far behind.
