Velvet Underground, Wire, Radiohead (ugh).. 8< snip >8 Okay - I just bought the new Clinic CD "Walking With Thee". And - I'll freely admit it - I don't get the comparison. Not to offend anyone, but I'm hearing very bland, almost folk-like melodies, with an odd bit of harmonica here and there. Or else I'm hearing non-specific generic punk-like rave-ups. I'm not hearing much that resembles Wire specifically - except for maybe the minimalism of the arrangements. The vocalist, harmonica & organ especially makes the band sound miles away from Wire, even if some of the base arragnements of the music might be in that realm. What am I missing here? Spoon sounds more like Wire to me than this. Should I have purchased a different CD? To be fair, I'll spin it for a few days and see if my opinion changes - sometimes I have to live with a CD for a few days before I fully understand it. But, right now, I don't get it. IC-ists Thanks to all for the Clinic info. Their albums are pretty expensive at the local shop, but I'll keep searching around! They sound worth a listen. (no pun intended!) For anyone who may be interested, the Tony Levin Band tour is heading through the great lakes region and will be heading west soon. The show I'm working on for them is about 12 days away (yikes!) Regardless, they have set up a GREAT and entertaining website at: http://tonylevinband.com The floating heads on the "on the bus" page are particularly silly, as are the mp3's of Jerry Marotta's banter! One item I really like is their "Band Policy" page; photo's OK without flash, audio recording OK if not sold, they sign everything, meet, greet fans and by all accounts are really nice people! Pretty nice change from the dour KC, eh? Also, could some of the ICers check out my site at: http://www.3rproductions.com and let me know what you think?
