I've been reading the digest for about two years, have found the list to be a great source of information and have picked up on stuff like Boards of Canada, GYBE/Mt. Zion, etc. just on listers recommendations. Anyway, whilst simultaneously listening to my recently acquired 'One of our girls' and reading the Mute web-site A.C. Marias blurb, I foud this and wondered if this might answer Keith's question re. Michael Clark: Bruce's first LP for the label was 1984's 'This Way', the results of a collaboration with a then notorious young ballet dancer, Michael Clark. "He was doing some choreography for a dance company and he wanted to use five tracks from the first Wire album," Gilbert recalled. "He asked if I minded and it all started from there, really. We started meeting and talking informally about ideas around the vague internal structure that he was already working from. It wasn't a partnership as such, he just had tapes of slices of New York life which I used as my source material and I knew it was going to be a three part dance movement, but apart from that I had to use my own instincts. Some of the ideas I already and it was an opportunity to expand on them." The finished piece served as the opening sequence to Michael Clark and Company's debut performance at London's Riverside Studios and the Edinburgh Festival, 1984. The segment was entitled 'Do You Me? I Did', and Gilbert's finale, described in the NME as "the most chaotic and apocalyptic conclusion this side of Laibach," impressed Clark enough to rethink the last sequence. Keith, Did a little search and came up with this: "Bruce's first LP for [Mute] was 1984's 'This Way', the results of a collaboration with a then notorious young ballet dancer, Michael Clark. "He was doing some choreography for a dance company and he wanted to use five tracks from the first Wire album," Gilbert recalled. "He asked if I minded and it all started from there, really. "Before the arrival of the first album from the rejuvenated quartet, 'The Ideal Copy' in April '87, Bruce released his second Mute LP 'The Shivering Man' in March of that year, which as a further commission for Michael Clark, provided a largely instrumental counterpoint to Wire's pop technology." so it could be anything from that period. I've also sent a request for more information to Rambert so I'll let y'all know if that turns anything up. It'd help if i could find the programme! had a look yesterday, but no avail. Did find an old nme (5/3/88) which had the 'Kidney Bingoes' review, c/o Steven Wells. 'Kidney Bingo is actually a great idea for an aggressive carnivorous working class pastime. This is actually a boring record'. (that's the review in it's entirity folks. Hmmm....) His single of the week? 'I won't feel bad' by Simply Red (can't even remember that one), though as the review included a variation on the old joke about the difference between a the teardop explodes and a bull (a bull has the horns at the front and the prick at the back...) I suspect he wasn't being entirely serious. As a matter of interest the same edition had reviews of the following albums... I'm your man (Leonard Cohen) - 8/10 Heresie (Virgin Prunes) - 7/10 Frenz Experiment (Fall) - 6 and 1/3 And if anyone wants to know what rating the Gillan & Glover LP (Accidentally on Purpose) received they can mail me off-site! Sigur Ros -Svefn-g-Englar (Christ this is excellent!!!)>>>>>> Can't remember if this is the one i have...hmmmm...whichever one i have IS amazing..such beautiful music..AND..have any of you seen any of the videos? they are awesome!..like little short films...one is of two boys who are friends and play on the same football team together and after one of them scores the winning goal they collapse on top of each other in a celebratory embrace..then, much to the horror of one of the boy's macho, overbearing father, they start kissing! the videos are done in slow motion which gives them an eerie feeling... Tangerine Dream - Atem>>>>> ahhh, nice to see someone appreciating one of the first 5 Tangerine Dream albums! They just played a show here and I was interested although I couldn't go to the show. The pre-show write up defined them as "new wave art-pop" and a review of the show reads as follows: "the band's wiry, Wire-esque pop/punk demands close attention, and the four-some delivered, remaining impossibly tight throughout the 40 minute set and speeding up songs from their new Walking With Thee disc to two and three times their normal tempo." If these Liverpudlians show up in your hometown, it might be worth the bucks, quid, yen. hmmmm indeed. Anyone familiar with them? Any recommendations??? Bueller??....Bueller?? Planning on a visit to Posteverything today! Looking forward to hearing new Wire is a gross understatement!! Glad to hear some Tangerine Dream popping up on playlists as well. I'd add 'Stratosfear' and 'Rubycon' to the list of TD favorites!
