Expect an incendary night!! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 Mar 2002 02:26:44 +0000 From: Tim Subject: [idealcopy] OT "ACR: They're playing f**king Jazz!" Just been reading the book of the 24 Hour Party People Film. Tony Wilson is very critical of ACR and recalls the horror felt by himself, Alan Erasmus and Rob Gretton after they unveiled their 'new direction' for the Sextet album...in front of a tiny audience at the (then struggling) Hacienda. If this is to be believed, Factory were none too pleased with ACR after Simon Topping retreated to the back to play timbales. Factory clearly grudgingly put out ACR material after this point...in the same way that Nestle continue to sell Revels. And yet many pundits seem to regard this period as ACR's finest hour(s). And indeed ACR are playing some live dates and releasing a compilation of early stuff on the back of the film and their adoption by Soul-Jazz Records as a beacon of pre-Acid House uk dance invention. (Along with Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire, This Heat, Pop Group, Colourbox et al) My favourite Ratio record is "I'd Like to See You Again". Deeply stoned, bleak, industrial, psychedelic samba! A genre seldom explored by other artists. Ignored/Abhored by Wilson who was last heard on UK television saying that the wretched Linkin Park were the future of rock.... In my opinion, someone should have told Wilson in 82/83 to get John Robie, Arthur Baker or Jellybean or whoever to remix 'Knife Slits Water', 'Shack Up', 'Wild Party' etc etc and ACR would have been as big as New Order. And why isn't there a Happy Mondays website? Is it because your average Mondays fan is too cool to admit it, or too thick to operate a computer? _______________________________________ Two Fat Persons....Click Click Click http://www.kidsindestructible.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 Mar 2002 08:13:31 -0000 From: Alistair Tear Subject: [idealcopy] I'm back I've been away for a couple of weeks due to a family bereavement...So apologies to those listers who are expecting stuff from me I'll get on the case over the Easter weekend later A ************************************************************************* The contents of the e-mail and any transmitted files are confidential and intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom they are addressed.
