Quite brilliant, really. It is one that previously I thought I could probably do without, but I was wrong. This is the second day running I have brought it to work, to listen to over headphones while everyone looks at me a bit funny. But I can put up with the embarassment, because it is that good. Coverage of this album has tended to focus on the `creative tension' between Dome (the producers) and Desmond Simmonds. This is a pity, as the end product is something close to a shy kid brother of A-Z, an album that many people here rate very highly. Noise and loops meet pop tunes in a way that anticipates much of what is currently hailed as orginal in the `post rock' arena. The collaboration may not have been easy, but it seems to have been crucial - the extra live tracks don't stand up against the studio versions. I like Simmonds voice too, which I'd describe as `sweet' if there wasn't a danger of sounding a bit Virgina Astley. In short I'd recommend it.
