(the other three tracks aren't much cop though). keith ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 17 Mar 2002 05:24:19 -0800 (PST) From: Ari Britt Subject: [idealcopy] up for grabs............... .........first come,......... If we're talking the latter, I've only recently got 'whore' but there's some pretty good stuff there - like MBV's 'map ref' and mains 'used to' which i'm playing as we speak... keith ps anyone know what main's own stuff is like. i loved roberts previous group loop but main have passed me by... - ----- Original Message ----- From: To: ; Sent: Sunday, March 17, 2002 9:16 PM Subject: Re: [idealcopy] lou Reed Covers > In a message dated 17/03/02 01:34:09 GMT Standard Time, > scott@kellock42.freeserve.co.uk writes: > > > > What's "Wire"'s best Cover version ? > > > /////well there aren't that many to choose from really. maybe my fave is > "time was" by ac marias. wire's "roadrunner" is a bit tongue-in-cheek (as i > guess was theri "glad all over" which i've never heard). Main's cover of "Used To" is actually a lot like Main's earlier work...maybe a bit denser though. The 'early' days of Main (_Dry Stone Feed_, _Motion Pool_, _Hydra-Calm_, and about half of _Hz_) follow along those lines...processed guitar, dubby bass, and odd rhythmic sounds (some even use a regular drum machine), and nearly inaudible vocals. The more ambient Main, the _Firmament_ trilogy, _Deliquescense_ and the other half of _Hz_ are akin to some of Bruce Gilbert's output, especially _Ab Ovo_...nothing nearly as abrasive as ol' _In Esse_ though. Any time people ask me about Main, I always recommend either _Hz_ or _Motion Pool_, 'cause you get the best of both worlds. ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V5 #79 ******************************
