Why I do not know. I'm always curious what atrocities people can't bear to part with, even tho it compromises their standing within the human race. My two warts: The Brady Bunch "Meet the Brady Bunch" - a souvenir from my visit to Shangri-La Records in Memphis, home of the 1970's Popular Culture Museum (located in the bathroom--no joke). Paul Young "No Parlez" - an evil cover of Love Will Tear Us Apart, but a marvelous cover of Wherever I Lay My Hat (That's My Home) Whose secret shame is more, well, shameful? ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 Feb 2002 01:17:03 EST From: Eardrumbuz@aol.com Subject: Re: [idealcopy] The most embarassing cd in my collection is In a message dated 2/20/02 9:19:06 PM, nsoiseth@shaw.ca writes: >I'm always curious what atrocities people can't bear to part with, even >tho >it compromises their standing within the human race. > >My two warts: >The Brady Bunch "Meet the Brady Bunch" - a souvenir from my visit to >Shangri-La Records in Memphis, home of the 1970's Popular Culture Museum >(located in the bathroom--no joke). >Paul Young "No Parlez" - an evil cover of Love Will Tear Us Apart, but >a >marvelous cover of Wherever I Lay My Hat (That's My Home) > >Whose secret shame is more, well, shameful? okay, deep breath...1970's neil diamond is kick ass in my book. all my 8 tracks disintegrated, and i have recently been contemplating getting some cds. but i've parted with those (not by choice, but still). so what do i have that i won't part with? um, here's one that'll make more than one brit piss his pants...mike oldfield. i've always liked him, and i think i always will. i hope noone was eating or drinking while reading this. oh shit, my enya cd just finished playing. gotta change the disc... - -another the adult contemporary paul p.s. really, teh most embarassing cd in my collection should be that blondie greatest hits "once again into the bleach" thing, but by title only it's a toss up between annie lennox-medusa and the best of sade. they do belong to the mrs., but they're on my cd rack, hehe n.p. singles going steady (not embarassing at all...unless you're a teenage boy and you put it on in front of yer mom) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 Feb 2002 13:31:49 -0600 From: "dan bailey" Subject: Re: [idealcopy] The most embarassing cd in my collection is >okay, deep breath...1970's neil diamond is kick ass in my book. all my 8 >tracks disintegrated, and i have recently been contemplating getting some >cds. but i've parted with those (not by choice, but still). hmmm ... my double vinyl neil best-of was gonna be my nomination (though strictly speaking i suppose we're supposed to be talking *cd's* ...). or maybe the tom jones lp with green green grass of home & daughter of darkness (which i loved as a kid) will do. mind you, i bought these only to qualify for the 15-for-$10 offer at the used store i used to live near, as otherwise the vinyl in question would've cost me $1 a pop. that's how i wound up with meatwood flack's rumours (which i've actually played, unlike the preceding 2), too. honest. dan ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 Feb 2002 13:41:47 -0600 From: "dan bailey" Subject: [idealcopy] =?iso-8859-1?Q?Re:_=5Bidealcopy=5D_The_most_embarassing_cd_in_m y_collecti?= =?iso-8859-1?Q?on_is_=8A?= >My two warts: >The Brady Bunch "Meet the Brady Bunch" - a souvenir from my visit to >Shangri-La Records in Memphis, home of the 1970's Popular Culture Museum >(located in the bathroom--no joke). jesus -- that was one of my favorite record stores during their early-to-mid-'90s heyday, before their selection veered a little too much toward the monochromatically indie-pop-heavy for me. (possibly because of a change in ownership? when i started frequenting the place in early '91 after discovering it upon driving up from little rock for a naked raygun show at the antenna club, the management consisted of one guy who was at least as big a mekons-head as i was, & another who played in highly esteemed [though not my cup of tea] garage-noisesters the oblivians). god, the used vinyl i used to stagger out with at cut-rate prices ... the redskins' neither washington nor moscow! oi polloi's outraged by the atomic menace! alas, driving through memphis last night in the pouring rain, i cruised right by the store (is it still there? & is the pop culture museum?) so as to make my way to the vastly more punk-oriented last chance records instead. not that i should've bothered -- was cheered to hear container drivers coming over the speakers when i walked in, but as for buying stuff (that i couldn't afford to begin with, of course) the visit was a total wash, since i had no real need to pick up what would've been my 3rd & 4th copies of the aforementioned neither washington (*somebody* over there seems to have had a real redskins fixation, though considering the latter's soul orientation, perhaps that makes a certain amount of sense). dan ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 Feb 2002 13:50:48 -0600 From: "dan bailey" Subject: Re: [idealcopy] OT - records of the century not to revive the semiannual top-10-fall-lp's game, in which we learn that one person's favorite fall albums are another's most-hated, but if seminal live & hex enduction had constituted 67.7 percent of my intro to the band, i daresay i'd own about 40 less lp's & cd's. though frenz might've kept my ears open enough to finally come across utter gems like witch trials, this nation's saving grace, wonderful & frightening world, bend sinister, code: selfish, infotainment scan, light user syndrome, etc. dan >Interesting reading!! > >> but i could be the only 21-year-old Wire & Fall >> obsessive (my wire/fall cd collection deserves its >> own rack now)... > >I only discovered The Fall through this list and have >since gotten 'Frenz Experiment', 'Seminal Live', and >'Hex Enduction Hour' and just cannot get into them at >all. I have way too many vinyls, cassettes, even several hundred eight-tracks stowed away, to ever listen through again. 25 years ago, I would create 'best of' cassettes / reel x reels to fuel parties & personal mayhem, but now I could probably take those best ofs and burn very little onto CD. Over time, the same repetition consumed again and again eventually gets old. Bruce's 2 vinyls to be played on 2 turntables simultaneously / randomly is as near infinite as one may never hear the same twice. Even the novel 2 speed 33-45 (artist?) doubles the song as to whose voices are backing whom. Teenage Filmstars did an album backwards, which I can't honesty recommend / remember any highlights, except 'a' perhaps if dyslexic it may yield genious inside. Thanks to all the listees who post their tastes here, as when listening to local university radio, I get to consume a sample of your collection without actually being a com$umer; I'm running out of space! And the song of the moment may as well be "The Stranglers" - "Enough Time" from "Black & White". 80 yr old punker w/earhorn (someday), voyteck PS: Commercial Music- Somebody mentioned long ago that the likes of Black & Decker should use Wire's "Drill" to sell their powerdrills. Also, mentioned Illinois Tool works. Any other ideas? Maybe BTO "Taking care of breakfast" for McDonald's? TFF "Shout" for laundry detergent? Nonesuch Explorers Balinese chant for "K-Tel's chop-o-matic"? ZZZzzz... ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V5 #54 ******************************
