Jim O'Rourke!...other than the improv laptop stuff he did with Fennesz (the great Sound of FennO'Berg cd) i just don't see what warrants all the glowing reviews...and on top of it all he seems to be a twat (see the Nov. 2001 issue #213 of the WIRE magazine)...i just don't get it..and believe me it's not for a lack of trying......I do not own "Significance" but have heard it 5 or 6 times at friend's house/car and i seem to like less each time...maybe i should listen to it at home by myself?....hmmmmm...someone please help me to see/hear what i am missing here... I saw them live in 1976 at Drury Lane.Excellent musicians & they could put on a really good show.Real class. It's a pity they never really made it in Britain as they were huge in Europe & the US.their last album Civilian was their best in my opinion. The guitarist Gary Green was exceptional & his hook on my favourite GG track "Playing The Game" on The Power & The Glory is still one of the best I've heard. I don't have the Digipack thing just the plain old CD.However you're right about the pricing.Their website is pretty good though.Check it out IC'ers.you can listen before you buy & all that. Track 23 of the CD is odd although I haven't listened to it on headphones yet.The track is called Magic Window & appears to be 1.43 secs of silence.I presume it's been done before. I know a classical piano piece has been done like that.read it on this list I think. I'm going to order It's All In The Brochure this week.I was at the RFH & still haven't got round to getting it ! Einheit is released...there is a nice track from the collaboration called Herz on one of the Wiretapper compilations. The one to get though, is the VVV ( collaboration with Alan Vega of Suicide) "Endless" cd....I'm not sure if i would count Mogwai in that group or not...hmmmm...i always lump them in with Flying Saucer Attack, My Bloody Valentine, Jesus and Mary Chain, Sonic Youth, etc. as Guitar Benders of the finest order..so far the only thing that has really got me going was the ep with "Rollerball" and "Kubrick"..didn't like the last album very much..sem to be stuck in a rut and cursed with the burden of living up to all the hype.....Now Dead Voices On Air is something special! I saw them on tour with the Legendary Pink Dots and they were fabulous!..Air Piss Frond is a great cd....Hafted Maul and New Words Machine both sound a bit like an Autechre album..for ambience of different kind check out "How Hollow Hart" and the collaboration with James Plotkin called "Peripheral Blur" all of these are fine releases....sorry i'm rambling! caught a case of Rowland-itis..which isn't a bad thing! information sharing, ain't it great!
