Toshack Highway is the latest project by Adam Franklin, singer and lead guitarist of Swervedriver. This is a four track EP that sounds like a demo, but is pretty quality stuff nonetheless. Swervedriver no longer sounds like a shoegazer band meets the Stooges - they've changed into a very psychedelic 60's pop sound. There's really not much information on this disc - however, there may be some information on his website: http://www.toshackhighway.com . I've only listened to it a couple of times, but I'm liking what I'm hearing. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 1 Feb 2002 04:58:12 EST From: Rain19c@aol.com Subject: [idealcopy] Re: violet indiana robert: >does anyone know when the new Violet Indiana album comes out? it's called "casino" and it came out in the states last week...they are selling it for 15.99 at the store, so im scouting for lower prices... ~michael ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 1 Feb 2002 12:35:19 +0100 From: "Giacomo" Subject: [idealcopy] Wire live & questions I'm looking for them but I've never found any Wire bootleg (cd/vhs). In common with many of you, I used to regularly tape the Peel show in the late 70's and early 80's. Some time in the mid-80's I made a compilation of the best stuff that I hadn't got elsewhere, however there was one song that Peel had not identified and it's been a mystery to me for the best part of 20 years ! Style-wise is very early New Order-ish, mid-paced, military style drums, big bass, ethereal synths and, most tellingly, a melodica floats in and out during the song. Lyrics, as far as I can make out, start like this : "Stranger where are you taking me We passed my stop an hour ago Do I know what day it is I'm in too deep to turn back now" Any info most gratefully accepted. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 1 Feb 2002 10:04:41 EST From: MarkBursa@aol.com Subject: Re: [idealcopy] [OT] [CD LIST] Everybody loves a CD history... Let's see, background: I live in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada (pop: 200,000 or so, roughly 19 km SE of nowhere) with a wife, 2 cats and a dog. Done the grad school thing (down in North Carolina and later in Iowa) and am now happily underemployed doing mostly desktop pub and editing jobs, as well as various home-related projects. First got into Wire after hearing 12XU on the Burning Ambitions compilation. Shortly after that I bought Snakedrill & The Ideal Copy and have been hooked ever since. Favorite Wire songs: MK I: Practice Makes Perfect or The 15th; MK II: definitely The Drill. My wife and I almost drove to San Francisco in 2000 to see reunion gigs but bought a house instead, which financially extinguished that idea. Still holding out hope that I might yet get another chance. Current listening these days: The Eels, "Souljacker"; Solex, "Low Kick and Hard Bop"; PiL, "Metal Box"; The Innocence Mission, "Glow"; Cinerama, "Va Va Voom". That's about it for now. Hope you have room for one more at the table.
