One that's always puzzled me is `literasites', from the second track on side one of New Order's Technique (I think the song is called `All the way'). The line, as I've always heard it is `parasites and literasites they'll burn me if they can'. It is not in the OED - presume Barney meant a `literary parasite'- perhaps a dig at the critics of his crap rhymes (nation-salvation-reasonable-seasonable etc.). Unless my cloth ears have struck again, and he's singing something else entirely. Perhaps archive Graeme postings could become a semi regular feature? An ideal copy? My favourite was the long, loving description of the effect on his brain and body of four pints of (unnamed brand) beer and (I think) listening to Symptoms (or maybe Silo). Any help would be appreciated...thanks, Hi everyone Sorry if this message rambles, but I was up until 5:00 AM last night programming, and I'm still feeling it this morning! (^_^) Anyway - to answer your question, there are two editions of It Seems on CD in the US/Canada. The first edition is missing the Si Tu Attends track. The next edition is not. There is no way to tell the editions apart by looking at the cover. The only way you can tell is by looking at the matrix printing near the center of the CD itself. The incorrect version has two little dots next to the numbers, and the correct version has 3 little dots. The numbers themselves match between the two editions. I know this, because I have both U.S. editions - a CD with and a CD without the track. Hope this helps! Cheers, Paul (yawn..) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 31 Jan 2002 11:12:54 -0800 From: fernando Subject: Re: [idealcopy] Colin Newman "It Seems" question The Japanese copy of It Seems also has the track (as best as I can recall). It was a problem with the initial US pressing. To tell if it has the track without playing it... look at the inner ring of the CD. And when he's chilled sufficiently, he should review the on-list responses to his posts (if he's deleted them, the archives are always at http://www.smoe.org/lists/idealcopy), because I don't see anything in them that goes beyond normal & acceptable levels of debate on music mailing lists. From this vantage point, looks like DJ Nana overreacted, mistaking the usual banter about the relative merits of bands for a personal attack - -- which it wasn't. At any rate, *nothing* merits calling people names, either on-list or off. If it continues, the user won't -- not on this list. I would like to thank whoever said something about " *chicks* off the list" - don't worry, I got it - anyway, been a long time since I was classed as a "chick" - thanks for that, it was right up there with being carded by cute young door gentlemen for ego boosting pleasure :-) Prophylactic - Monty Python - the audio tape of Holy Grail - I first heard it in, oh, '75? hhhmmm, what else? - Jack Rabid? - ok, I'll go for it - Journalist/Musician - besides the magazine runs Big Takeover list - it's pretty good because it's about music in general, not a specific band, so the range of genres and topics is pretty open for discussion - he also has a band, Burning Embers? that plays out in NY I know there's something else, but can't think of it so that's it for now Laurel OH! I remember - first steps on the moon - July 20, 1969 - my 11th birthday, which was nice - July 20 is also the anniversary of the first Buzzcocks show, 1976 - my 18th birthday - and in a round about way that brings us back to Howard - tied that in nicely, didn't I? ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 31 Jan 2002 19:08:34 EST From: CHRISWIRE@aol.com Subject: Re: [idealcopy] Return of the evil NP/Today's Listening Lists!!!! Hi everyone, I'll chime in on the "What am I listening to today?" thread by listing my office CDs that I grabbed this morning: Wire: it's all in the brochure Wire: The Third Day (These are in a 2 CD jewel case - perfect for on-the go people!) Jawbox: For your own special sweetheart Shellac: at Action Park The Fall: The unutterable The Fall: Code Selfish Sneaker Pimps: Becoming X Aphex Twin: Complete (a homemade MP3 disc of just about everything) Neil Young: Time Fades Away (It checks out Ralph - on its way soon!) and two CDs arrived today at work: Neil Finn: One Nil (and, this one deserves special mention) Toshack Highway: everyday, rock'n'roll is saving my life. Toshack Highway is the latest project by Adam Franklin, singer and lead guitarist of Swervedriver. This is a four track EP that sounds like a demo, but is pretty quality stuff nonetheless. Swervedriver no longer sounds like a shoegazer band meets the Stooges - they've changed into a very psychedelic 60's pop sound. There's really not much information on this disc - however, there may be some information on his website: http://www.toshackhighway.com . I've only listened to it a couple of times, but I'm liking what I'm hearing. Tonight's playlist: bits n pieces of "Lazy Dog" mix by Ben Watt Bailterspace "photon" ep Rusell Mills Undark "One Strange Familiar" Actually, slightly on topic--I'd forgotten he collaborated with Bruce and EGL long ago. The Mills website lists a lot of interesting stuff. Forget the addy, but you can get there thru bellaunion.com Glen Matlock "My Little Philistine" ep Gavin Friday "Shag Tobacco" Love this disc.
