For a while now I've been lurking on GBV's Postal Blowfish [digest] list and
found it totally different than "our" IC.

Definitly more Americans here. More [oh my God!] rude words, beerdrinking
and [gasp] innuendo!!!
It seems GBV has a different mix of fans than Wire does! Also, there are
more female-fans there. We never seem to hear from any of "our" girls
anymore... 

But I just can't find the time for totally joining more than one list. You
guys are more than I can handle!  :-P

oh no. looks i'm on my own here as well...i think bobby's done some good stuff
in recent years - 'kowalski' is a genuinely exciting record and 'xtrmntr' is a
great album. and then there's his contribution to death in vegas 'contino
sessions' which i have to say is one of my fave albums of recent years. and i
haven't got a problem at all with his contribution to 'get ready'...

<< my one complaint with get ready is, as others have also put it, the forced
rhyming that has worked in the past falls very short in a few spots here,
especially the last line of the album. that makes it all the worse because
it's the thing that's freshest in your mind after listening to an otherwise
(imo) very good album.

i'm just glad that there's someone else here with something kind to say about
it. i've long since stopped worrying about barney's singing or lyrics though.
i reckon new order have made great records in spite of (as opposed to because
of) his voice and words. i love them because of hooky's bass playing (my fave
bass player along with jah wobble) and stephen's drumming - i reckon he's a
real unsung hero (he's even an unsung member of new order) and perhaps the
most influential drummer of all time (admitedly there's not many in this
category!)
actually mention of josek k reminded me that i always wished that new order
had recruited another singer - i.e. paul haig when josef k split. i reckon his
deep larynx would have been ideal. i heard a really good track off pauls last
album - i don't know whether anyone can recommend the rest ? - though it's a
shame he's resorted to making predominantly instrumental records, cos his
vocal contributions to the mackenzie/haig 'memory palace' album reminded me
what a great voice he had. it might be limited in range - especially when
compared to billy's vocal gymnastics - but there's something - a warmth ? a
resonance ? (particularly on the gorgeous 'i believe in you' 45) - that sets
him apart from pretty much everybody else...

i agree wholeheartedly. do these ideal copy / GBV and shriekback
contributors have more hours in the day than the rest of us or something ? i
know it's a long shot but i reckon they might be involved in some government
programme to assess the views of people who don't like nu-metal or the
corrs...

you needn't. it made my top 10 of '01. we all know that such things are the
very definition of subjective ... for instance, having just received my
subscriber's copy of the new big takeover (plugged here recently, & for good
reason, though my tastes & editor jack rabid's started largely deviating
about a decade ago), i was amused anew to see the latest gbv, isolation
drills, referred to as their finest ever. thus far, it's the one gbv album
(not in the dross-heavy box set, anyway) that i haven't felt the slightest
inclination to give another chance to.

hi all,

at some point way back when, ideas were being tossed around for us 
idealcopyists to collaborate on some kind of audio project. there were 
basically two ideas focused on for a bit, yet nothing ever came to fruition 
then. 

earlier this month, four wire fans (myself included) collaborated on the 
"exquisite corpse" type approach, and we have one initial piece titled 1 2 
I.O.U. available in quicktime (.mov) format for anyone interested in hearing 
it. the piece is constructed of 4 audio tracks, each one recorded by an 
individual unaware of what the other three participants were doing. the only 
guideline for the recording was that the tracks be 1 min 54 secs each. the 4 
tracks are heard simultaneously. i set them to video in iMovie using images 
from a random selection of stock photos. the resulting 12IOU.mov is 3.1mb and 
requires quicktime 3.0 for viewing.

if you'd like to see/hear it, email me off list and i'll send it to you. if 
you can (and are willing to) post it somewhere for all to see, or if you can 
suggest an easy way for me to do it, please let me know. i haven't figured 
out if i can even have streaming or downloadable video at my site at tripod. 
what i tried so far hasn't worked.

as dan says - based on one track? i love julian (i prefer the teardrops but i
like the 'bar room crud' too!) but you know i just couldn't be bothered
justifying anything for that jerk. i'll try not to be offended by him not
thinking i'm 'industrial' or 'anarchistic'. ouch. that hurt - even though i
don't work in a factory and i've just paid my income tax bill. (i might need
some therapy but i'm sure i'll get over the insult in the long term....)
