Despite the fact that that Morrisey was such a strong front-man. I'm not that familiar with the other solo projects, but with Morrissey, I've always found a few gems on his solo albums - on some more than others. I guess the "greater than the sum of..." argument with lots of broken bands [e.g. we spoke of the Pixies earlier] has something to do with the sence of grief we feel cos of the breaking up. - -------------- Keith wrote: > but no album with 'cemetry gates' (my least fave smiths track alongside the awful 'paint a vulgar picture') > the 'kill uncle' LP though was dross and at that point it seemed like moz's career was over. how wrong can you be Well, it goes to show how subjective it all is... I like both Cemetery Gates AND [almost all of] the Kill Uncle album. > but i stand by the majority of his solo career and think in time people will recognise how great some of it has been. See the above-mentioned. Gimme it! I still only have it on tape. Bought Maladjusted just the other day and was a bit disappointed, but maybe I have to get used it. - ------------- Bart http://www.bartvandamme.com bartvandamme@home.nl ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 22 Jan 2002 07:50:37 +0100 From: "bartvandamme@home" Subject: Re: [idealcopy] morrissey's nadir ? > we all seem to agree on one thing though - 'kill uncle' is pretty poor. Then it goes into this >violent guitar part and mellows back down into seaguls >and waves. Kinda haunting track i suppose. Close, it's 'Twist' by Tones On Tail. You can get it on the double CD "Everything". CD1 is the album 'Pop' and CD2 is everything else. Pre-Love & Rockets, but flawless pop. I'm sure some will agree or disagree and yes forward music has been going this way since kraftwerk or earlier i suppose but imo I think that forward music, bands, groups, etc etc. are going towards...electronic music. Whether it's a band with guitars, synths, bass, effects, samplers, dex, guitar players running effects through effect units, electronic drummer, keyboardist, etc etc etc. I think the music is structuring itself in that direction. Either by death or by design? I don't know. Being a fan of both guitar oritented music and synth music, (perhaps more into synth stuff) I am glad I get the chance to hear several styles of sounds. For instance the sex pistols were a great band but john lydon was smart enough to see the bigger picture and form pil. Songs such as "the order of death" ete etc were pretty important imo. I'm sure i'm probably preaching to the converted but i just wanted to get this off my chest anyway. I guess i'm a little disgusted at many people in the dj/electronic world because I feel many of these people are one dimensional and don't know of the past. Therefore they regurgitate the same thing over and over and cannot progress(like many in the past have progressed into the dj/electronic world) Then again they were already their first. Imo i think the people like wire and other 70's 80's people totally paved the way and were doing remixes with if not before the detroit people. In fact I believe the people like wire, etc did it/do it a lot better. I see the newest music not necessarilly a dj, i see it as a force with possibilites of synths, electronics, vocals(not necessarilly always though) perhaps vocoded perhaps not, drum machines samplers, whataver. I see it as a major force fairly soon. Yes it's been around a while and I hope it breaks through the rock culture here in america someday. Regardless I think this is where it's headed but then again I could be completely wrong. ;^) Send FREE video emails in Yahoo!
