Eek. I think I confuse Roy Wood in my mind with Viv Stanshall - both have beards, glasses and much English whimsy. Bonzo Dog doo-dah stuff has its moments but wears very thin, IMO. >Lennon had a dreadful, whiny nasal voice, esp. on later Beatles/Solo stuff! >Am I the only person who thinks this? Agreed. Hence my preference for Candyflip's version of Strawberry fields! I've been listening to Lali Puna this w/e - don't know much about them, but like what I hear. Somewhere between A.C. The disc itself also looks perfect - - mainly black with simple sliver lettering. However, the disc itself actually contains 18 mixed tracks from around 1987 from such artists as Mel & KIm, Boy George, Hot Chocolate and others......! CDDB suggests the title is Magic Musik by Various Artists, and the serial number on the internal ring of the CD is 258-389-225 Mastered by Nimbus. Now (having shared all that with you !) would anyone be interested in this item ? I don't want cash for it (maybe a couple of CDR bootlegs would be nice ;-) . I simply have no need for it, but being a fan of the band, I would prefer to see it go to a keener fan/completist. Please Email me privately if interested. I would also be interested to hear privately from anyone who may have Wire CDR boots to trade. I don't have any other Wire stuff but can supply a list of other bands. Many thanks, Simon ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Jan 2002 19:47:55 +0000 From: Tim Subject: [idealcopy] Re: voices At 06:19 14/01/2002 +0000, you wrote: > >ps i'm going to see brian wilson later this month at the RFH. i can't tell >you how excited i am to see such a legend. if it's anywhere near as good >as the other gig i saw there - those nice wire chaps - it'll be a ball. I'm going up to Glasgow to see him! Can't wait. Have you heard the 'Live at the Roxy' CD from a couple of years back? If its anything to go by, the show will be as good as the Wire 'comback'. Brian can't quite hit those high notes, and he slurs his vocals from time to time but given the battering his neuro-transmitters took during the last 40 odd years, he puts in a stirring performance...enough to make a grown (wo)man cry! And his band are excellent. The just play the songs as they should be played...right down to those trademark walking basslines and the dub-delay on the congas....with no fuss, no surplus guitar solos/DX7 abuse....and they have got the vocal harmonies of to a tee. The way the band kicks into the first track on this CD reminds me very much of that fantastic opening to the Wire show where Robert counts in 'Pink Flag' and Wooomph! Off they go. Expect a trawl through his back catlogue including a sprinkling of surfin hits, lots of pet sounds, three from 'Sunflower', the awesome 'Till I Die' and a few unexpected gems. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Jan 2002 14:59:53 EST From: RLynn9@aol.com Subject: [idealcopy] new Boards of Canada for those of you interested there will be a new Boards of Canada cd called "Geogaddi"...released by Warp Records on the 18th of February....FINALLY!!!! should be good! Sorry IC-ers for talking about Brian Wilson here, but you will note that all of mine and Keiths posts about Brian Wilson have included Wire content...more than most posts recently. And this one does too. See..you can't slag off Brian Wilson because he is an undisputed genius. You can't slag off George Best, Kevin Sheilds or Eric Morcambe either....for the same reason. And Robert Gotobed. You cannot slag off Robert Gotobed. The man has never done anything wrong in his life...other than swapping Wire for vegetables during the 90s ...and that was the rest of Wire's fault wasn't it? As far as I am concerned Robert Gotobed *is* Wire. They are so much better *with* than wihout IMHO. ________________________________________________ "You can hear the Compressor....and the electronic drill" www.kidsindestructible.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Jan 2002 23:18:39 EST From: Rain19c@aol.com Subject: [idealcopy] OT: new boards of canada album i know there are some fans of BOC on here: their new album, Geogaddi will be co-released on february 19th, 2002 by the band's labels, skam and warp. this according to their website... i personally found "music has the right to children" boring and syrupy, though... ~michael ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 15 Jan 2002 08:22:25 GMT From: alistairtear@streetmanagement.org.uk Subject: [idealcopy] This Is London article from Alistair Tear This may be of some interest ADAM ANT HELD AFTER GUN FRACAS Former pop star Adam Ant has been arrested after he allegedly pulled out a handgun and waved it around a busy London pub before assaulting a fellow drinker.
