A pleasure to read Keith's thoughts on the RFH gig - don't think many here will disagree with the sense of privilege he expresses. Re Michael Clarke - I really enjoyed his bit too - the people I went with thought it was crap but to me it seemed very adventurous - a move away from the purely `four blokes with guitars' approach which is always to be applauded. My only gig in NZ was Tim Finn (pronounced Tum Funn, of course) of Split Enz/crowded house fame. I had only a casual interest in his stuff (and Crowded house, more the baby of brother Neil, I never much cared for), but the gig was bloody great - outdoors at a country pub in the Coromandel, dead tight band, and loads of great material that I didn't know about. Of the stuff I knew, the likes of `I see red' came over much better than the records, shorn of the twinkly eighties production. Found myself thinking about Wire during the set - wonder if there was any degree of cross pollination there? Would be glad to hear others thoughts on this, along with Tim Finn solo record recommendation. Admittedly, the build up - films, dj's (of sorts) and a patchy He Said set was self-indulgence gone mad (though the film of them playing in 1978 was excellent)" Well, most of the press had a bug up its arse because these four 'old timers' were kicking the crap out of pretty much anything the 'youngsters' were doing. Having said that, I actually preferred the build-up (DJxDJ excepted) to Wire that night. Immersion was great in that venue and He Said, bar the last track, was excellent. Wire were good, but The Garage was a much better performance... C ===== - ------- Craig Grannell / Wireviews --- http://www.wireviews.org News, reviews and dugga. The site now has a new design and a whole bunch of new pages online, and all the old ones have been tidied and improved. The site now incorporates pretty much the entire WMO archive, including all the newsletters, essays and interviews. It also begins a long process of updating Andrew Westmeyer's excellent lyrics archive (thanks to Andrew for allowing us to use this content). The A List is also being done in a less time-consuming manner, so expect updates to that once a month from now on, along with a 'top ten' of solo tracks. There's other new stuff, too, so get looking! :) Best Craig. ===== - ------- Craig Grannell / Wireviews --- http://www.wireviews.org News, reviews and dugga. (^_^)) Also, there's reviews of the rfh and Seattle shows here: http://www.weasel-bot.com/rfh http://www.weasel-bot.com/seattle (Although, I never finished the Seattle one. That might be a great project for this weekend!) Keith - you may want to contact wireviews and submit your review for the site. I'm sure it would be greatly appreciated! As a founder member of German band Popol Vuh Florian's music was widely used in the films of Werner Herzog. "Florian Fricke - born February 23, 1944 in Lake Constance - died in Muenich, December 29th, 2001, after being hit by a stroke. The blood thinning medication Macumar overdose made this his last day. Me (Gerhard Augustin), being a manager and part of POPOL VUH for the last 30 years, I am saddened and also relieved for Florian who has been suffering badly for the last few months. His funeral was in Muenich on January 4th - at 13.45 pm in the Krematoriums - Aussegnungshalle East Cemetery in Muenich-Giesing, Germany." ===== kevin eden wmo, po box 112, stockport, cheshire, sk3 9fd, uk e-mail: wmouk@yahoo.com web: www.wireviews.org "dreams that money can buy" Send FREE video emails in Yahoo!
