In my opinion the Kronos quartet always were a bit too "Nigel > Kennedy". > In my opinion Konos Quartet are from a different level comparing Nigel Kennedy. Did you know they played nearly 400 composers as I must believe their web-site. From Frank Zappa, Jimi Hendrix, John Zorn, John Cage, AstorPiazolla, Steve Reich, Riley, Pauline Oliveiros, Miles Davis, Gubaidolina, Ustvolskaya, Kevin Volans etc. A lot of composers are writing pieces to them. Sometimes I believe that a band like Sonic Youth are also that influenced to them that they are wishing to play let's say the contemporary composers with their sound of course. Or was one of the last 2cd Goodbye 20th century just an temporary issue Nigel is in my opinion so big rotten commercial sick that you can't believe in his integrity. But maybe I am wrong. A violin player who wants to be famous because of his hair-cut is more a kind of dandy then a musician. And let's not talk about the political message he explores. We in Holland we have a broadcast company called the TROS. I think he would perform for them. Anyway maybe they change their string into a wire for a while and try to bring a good performance with a well known Flag behind them. But I think this is off topic. Classic remains alone on guitar Bart asked: The Serenes? I've seen them a couple of times in Groningen, but that was a few years ago... Who was it, the frontman? [forgot his name] The only name I know at the moment Paul Dokter. He played in the Toilets and I am not sure later in the Serenes. But I will check it out next week. Best wishes for 2002. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 30 Dec 2001 00:18:27 -0500 From: Mike F Subject: [idealcopy] Perdidit antiquum litera prima sonum I was reading a collection of Edgar Allan Poe's stories and one of them, "The Murders in the Rue Morgue," contains the Latin quote: Perdidit antiquum litera prima sonum Which the footnote translates as: The first letter destroys the antique sound Perhaps Mr. Lewis came across this and subsequently named the Wir album. The chances are slim but it does seem very appropriate to me. But after each listen, it somehows makes sense, and i actually quite like it now- especially the first 4 tracks. And the cut and paste Ibis-Afro Man is just totally nuts! its not as good as the unutterable, though. ~michael ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 30 Dec 2001 10:04:45 +0100 From: bartvanDamme Subject: Re: [idealcopy] Re: Eno/fav. classical >>> Talking about Eno, his "Variations on Canon in D Major by Pachelbel" is >>> also a link to classical.
