They went to a remote scottish island where they burned a million pounds and videotaped the results. In usual KLF style no one was quite sure whether it was an Art installation, a publicity stunt or the actions of two eccentric British men....they KLF weren't sure either. I've seen bits of the video, and it shows Bill Drummond, Jimmy Cauty and associates shovelling wads of UK sterling into a roaring fire in an old cottage somewhere. There was a bit of a hoo-ha at the time with various people saying it was immoral and they could have given the money to charity etc etc. The fact was it was their own money, and was a big chunk of the royalties from their records. I think Paul Morley pointed out that Elton John squanders millions all the time, but no-one bats an eyelid. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Nov 2001 02:24:11 +0000 From: Tim Subject: [idealcopy] more topic potpourri [no Wire content] >re: Autechre >I've somehow managed never to hear them until now, but based on the >recommendations here I picked up CONFIELD this past weekend. I've only >played it once so far, but I really, really didn't like it. I was a bit nonplussed by Autechre's first couple of LPs. I only got them because at the time I used to buy every LP that came out on Warp records (early 90s) After about 20-30 listens over a period of a few years their LPs sunk in! Here's a tip. For some reason their records make perfect sense on a long train journey. Preferably through some post-industrial wasteland. Autechre first 'clicked' for me on the Trans-Pennine Express from Sheffield to Liverpool. That said, Confield isn't the most accessible record by a long way as Paul and Robert have pointed out. 'Amber' from 1992 is a bit easier to fathom. Maybe backtrack and start again. Judging Autechre on 'Confield' would be like judging Wire on 'The First Letter'. Its a cool album but it doesn't work so well unless you know where it came from. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Nov 2001 22:29:49 EST From: Rain19c@aol.com Subject: [idealcopy] autechre -chiastic slide / 50c silo / fsol ..i hear chiastic slide is going to be released as a US domestic release on november 27th...i have no idea why. speaking of records for 50c..i got the silo templates 7" for that very amount the other day over here..very good stuff indeed as for future sound of london, i have lifeforms and i think it is intriguing but not brilliant..it sounds a bit dated too these days. ~michael ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Nov 2001 01:46:35 +0100 From: "Mileta Okiljevic" Subject: Re: [idealcopy] Revolutionary Sounds of Thurston Moore > Mileta talked garbage > >>>>one of my friend who live in NY told - SY are > perfect band for yuppies who want to have everyday 45 > minute revolution. > > Ever considered that your friend might be full of > shit? Doesn' t he haven' t right to have his own opinion !? He is not in any band , any press and is dedicated to music completely.. why should he be jelaous on SY succes !? about tastes... > > Was your NY friend referring to peaceful revolution of > the kind pulled off by Ghandi against the rotten > British Empire & 'Large Black Slug' Victoria? I dare to say without his help they will wait even more for his first cover on NME. Taking the fact that people like him make some luck and fortune in life and became labeled like that, told me many things... can we told Bart to told Anton if he will be happy to meet him, to gave money to SYR and ask Bono to do same , and then put gallon on gasoline on his head and yell " kingdom come " and flame himself.. and take with him king of yuppie like Cpt.Beefheart is because he made a movie about him.. > > What I found grossly ignorant about your SY posting > was that you seemed to be slagging Thurston Moore for > recommending other bands, such as the excellent > Boredoms. I'd rather root through Thurston's record > collection than Mileta's any day! i visited your web-site and find that your collection cover about 40% of mine.. some of things you have didn' t pass test of time with me, but about tastes...!! if you can remember properly, when i joined list in first of few mailings i gave people right to tell what they want.. after all i joined this list because i heard that quality of this one is exactly what i expected..liking Wire for me gave me information of mental & taste constitution of mamebers nad that we can discussed about many things from era and surrounded wire gave us.. btw, i think that Thusrton wasn't inovative as Lee ranaldo was.. i have more sympathy for him, and think that he was in shadow of TM in SY.. and i think that your memory wasn' t serve you well.. if you see some of recent messages i wrote that i didn' t hear Boredomd and just add what picture i have about them.. i like Chrome, more than Sonic Youth.. also, as TM everlasting favourite, are you in Madonna..!? she is cultural icon, and certainly revolutionary in hers domain.. no doubt about it...!! and i hate very much people who recommended some good bands in this list, didn' t you noticed !? grossly ignorant from me, i agree and admit.. send me anthrax letter..!! > > I think it's quite refreshing that musicicans like him > & Colin Nemwan retain such an enthusiasm for other > peoples' music. sorry, i cannot see connection between those two.. even if i was refered that TM was into Wire, and wrote that he mentioned Outdoor Miner, i find that TM can be closely compared to Mark E. Smith except that TM spoke english better than MES.. enthusiasm...yes, does TM have less enthusiasm from Jim Kerr. SM are minor now, and they are still around.. I hate if i can say so, everuthing what they have done from NGD, but... > > >>>>maybe, i am wrong > > One word: yes. OK, Ok... i admit Daydream Nation is better than Sister and Evol.. and from whole Swans discography ( even if you have Swans section on your site and not SY ).. > > As usual Giluz spoke sense > >>>>I'm not saying that it's an axiom - Big Money > Ruins Good Music - I'm just saying that it's much > harder to do, and for this you really need a very > particular kind of talent. > > Sonic Youth prove this. What about Geffen, Dirty & Experimetal Jet Set.. does Butch Vig work for food & bed !?? who paid it !! are you mean on that garbage youth against fascism..and similar..naahh!!! Must i repeat again that i haven't heard SYR.. > Graeme then proceeds to have an even more incoherent pop at Mileta, Paul P, and John Roberts cos they like bands that he doesn't like. Graeme then proceeds to have an even more incoherent pop at Mileta, Paul P, and John Roberts cos they like bands that he doesn't like. tim-are you psychic !!? Graeme then proceeds to have an even more incoherent pop at Mileta, Paul P, and John Roberts cos they like bands that he doesn't like. Don't worry folks, if Graeme starts having a pop at you....you've arrived! Don't be hurt by Graemes words and be thankful that You *are* Hot! You Are The Ideal Copy! sorry Graham, i have right to think what i want... and don' t forget- revolution eats their own children.. music is not battlefield..so, i think that.. evolution..not revolution !!! revolution gave me impression of blood, sorry.. i cannot understand this all, i never told that i dislike SY, just that i was sick after TM public appearence and it seems there are few people thought same.. but, now i understand what they thought in their mails... i will search after few recommendations SYR sessions, but i really don' t know why are you in flames because of Thurston... know what, i will pass it to friend in NY.. i must told you at the end of the day that he is friend with them... if you gave me permission after all... no hard feeling-i like to hear your discussion after such a dreary day !! sorry, i am tired..so many patients today!!! and at the end of the day excerpt from your web-site- And a big thank you to Andy Pettitt for letting me fill up his webspace with all this garbage introspective, isn' t it !! peace & bananas ( i heard it from someone) mileta ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V4 #345 *******************************
