And that would obviously be the Ex Lion Tamers List? You see - these things do come back round again. John Suddenly feeling very Nietzchean. John, << And that would obviously be the Ex Lion Tamers List? >> Surely that would be a list that attempted to replicate the discussions on this list a few years ago? Personally I'm looking forward to the Wire RFH gig. And I reckon Peter Taylor is an excellent choice as Leicester'e new manager. ( btw, i never ask you why Melt wasn't on Twice upon..!?) What is Aktivitdt? Where can I obtain copies? Aktivitdt was a consistently well-produced magazine about Kraftwerk and Elektric Music, edited by Ian Calder. Unfortunately issue 10, published in April 1998, was the last, and issues are no longer being sold by the editor. There is however an official Aktivitdt website, which has a news section as well as archives of articles from the magazines. cheers, mileta ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Nov 2001 18:21:25 +0100 From: "Dave Russell" Subject: [idealcopy] 154 Badge I still have my 154 badge.. and it holds more memories for me than any of Wire's LP/CDs will ever have... Robert asked >>>>What exactly does a DJ Beekeeper set sound like?...what kinds of artists records/cds does Bruce play??? Since i live in the states and will probably never get to hear a set i would at least like to know what i have missed? Bruce would mix CD's with a double CD deck which could loop and go up to 50% faster or slower than normal speed. The only things I've ever recognised him playing on the occasions I witnessed Beekeeping were the Parallel Series Kendall Turner Overdrive CD (at a Labradford / Hovercraft gig in London) and a Pan Sonic track (at Festival of Drifting, Manchester). Both of these were played at normal speed, and he put a melodic synth thing over the sparse pan sonic track. The longer 'Swarm' on 'Deconstruct' gives a pretty good idea of what a Beekeeper set might sound like (this one uses only CD's released by Blast First, including Sonic Youth, Phill Niblock & Einheit / Brotzmann). Check out the Bruce Gilbert interviews on my website where he mentions some of the records he's played / mutated. Giluz opined >>>>Symptoms - Stale Air on a City Morning - one of my friends described Symptoms' style as "soundscapes", and I quite agree with it - this is very similar (to my ears at least) to Eno's ambient works Kevin also made that comparison, but I don't really hear it. Maybe I haven't heard the right Eno CD, but nothing I've heard by him comes close to the emotional impact of the second Symptoms album. Giluz asked >>>>Do Wire have to write political lyrics just so that you'll realise they've got a political agenda (and they did)? 'The First Letter' (Vien CD) seems quite relevant to the plight of many Afghans who are currently being persecuted by the gross medieval minded hypocrites who rule the US & UK, largely due to the intransigence of medieval minded Afghan leaders over a matter over which they probably have no control, but would lose a lot of face in admitting. At least opposition to this disgusting war appears to be mounting in the UK. However the people in the west are mostly heading east. It always seemed ridiculous to me that anyone could hear a song such as that HALO tune with a chorus that goes 'Fuck off you Nazi bastards' and think that Wire etc are entirely apolitical!!!!! The 'Manscape' album is crammed with political reflections... Lewis might sometimes cloak politics in metaphor so that they aren't always obvious (eg. 'Tainted Mathews at the blue queen's ball') but they are often there. The title of 'Over Theirs' actually seems to me to address the bury your head in the sand mentality that separates politics from everything else (as in it's not our concern, it's happening over theirs).
