Mileta > i really, really like Smiths, but instead of those > endless compilations > there was so much good material on Rough Trade in > beginning > wasn' t on CD.. > i doubt that ever will ..!! Everything the Smiths ever recorded made it onto CD. All the b sides were on the compilations. The only single that was difficult to obtain was This Charming Man which, although never officially deleted, was out of press for years. When I worked for the Cartel it was always accepted that the idea - tho this was hearsay not an official programme - was that it was always going to be reissued/repressed when RT felt the time was right for the inevitable Greatest Hits package. Someone I knew asked Geoff Travis if there were any Smiths recordings lurking in the vaults for posthumous release and the response was that there wasn't. Mind you I remember being told the same about Wire and there were a few things that surfaced on Coatings weren't there? > > >uk decay ; for madmen only > > You will not believe how many Goths will buy this > album on CD.. > i cannot realize why UK DECAY wasn' t been on CD > yet.. > i still have somehwere my For My Country/Unwind 7" > i adore Unwind.. Yes, I was a bit partial to UK Decay. The Unwind track is far better than the A side. I've got the tape of their final gig A Night For Celebration somewhere. I remember it chewing up in a tape recorder once tho and I put it back together with the aid of my mum's nail varnish using it as glue. Well it was a limited edition. 8-) Prats on CD? Oh yes please. Disco Pope. What else? Death to Trad Rock/Spike Milligan era Membranes would be nice. (Even if John Robb's face being on I Love the 90s and Central Weekend all the time gets on my tits.) There is a definite quantity over quality thing going on here folks. I'm not one for regulating topics but all this stuff about Dogs and peoples personal lives is surely better kept between consenting adults and not to the list as a whole. I'm not that bothered but think about the lurkers! As Edward Barton said : "Keep It Abstract!". (whatever happened to him?) Paul R Wrote about Adam Ant: >my advice would be to sell all your marco stuff and put it towards the box >set (the punk-era disc is great) or , better still , try and track down >some old bootlegs or the peel sessions cd. As a child of the 80s I know nothing of Ant other than his chart pop era. Seeing those Mike Mansfield chromakey videos to Prince Charming and Stand & Deliver recently sent shivers down my spine. Who cares if he was a punk selling out...for a few months in the early 80s he was *the* Pop Icon. Supersonic! And give anyone of my generation a pair of drumsticks and I guarantee they'll do that Burundi thing off Antmusic. Paul R: > >23 Skidoo's entire output > >this is supposed to be happening. keep your fingers crossed. i heard there >may be additional material as well. There is quite a demand for that kind of stuff now so they really should re-release. A couple of their tracks are on a Compilation that trendy DJ Andy Weatherall released called 9 o'clock Drop which I suppose is an attempt to compile a selection of pre-Acid House UK 'dance' music. He also included tracks by ACR, The Normal, Chris & Cosey, and Colourbox, you get the idea. Pretty good really. Mileta wrote: >I cannot believe that members of RHCP joined Moby & New Order in rendition >of >New Dawn Fades few days ago in USA... I know! What a bloody disgrace! I suppose as I get older I will have to deal with my childhood heroes making complete c***s of themselves....my Dad was horrified when Jagger & Bowie did that 'Dancin in the streets' thing and this atrocity reminds me of that. Poor old Ian Curtis will be turning in his grave. Why couldn't Moby have hung himself instead. Bloody hell And as for those Chilli Peppers.......I'd rather they were 'Propping up a Flyover' than 'Under The Bridge' >it' s strange that artists very often had completely different perception >about their work from us.. >i remember that Cocteau Twins told about Treasure that is demo-album, >not finished at all, and that if someone will ask them now, it will be >deleted.. True. Robin Guthrie describes Treasure as 'An abortion'. I don't much care for it either, I find it rather sickly. My fave CT albums are Blue Bell Knoll and Heaven or Las Vegas. One of the best gigs I ever saw was CT! They had such a wonderful mystique around them which made the gig so special. The only artists I can think of that still have this same mystery are Wire, Autechre, Jason Pierce and Kevin Sheilds. Vinni Reilly from Durutti Column is notorious for his loathing of his own records as well. The Beta Band famously slagged off their own debut LP mercilessly in the press before its release. This was a clever tactic to deflect from the fact that it *really* was complete and utter dross. They failed to repeat this track for their second LP which is even worse! Now Rotating: Phonecia - BrownOut : Fascinating, atmospheric, elecro-dub inspired by power shortages in Florida it says here. Me? I can't get enough of this kind of stuff. More! MD - Between Gaps: Crisp, driving electronica full of wrong-Pop melody and floor shaking bass. Plus some barely audible rapping! New Order - Live DVD: The first half from a NYC show in 1981. Proto electronic beats, dodgy haircuts, wild stares, life or death. People going into drugs re-hab for Cocaine addiction should be forced to compare 'Everythings Gone Green' to 'The Price of Love'. - ------------------------------------------------- Contents May Settle During Transit http://www.gooom.com http://www.kidsindestructible.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 Aug 2001 11:51:04 +1000 From: "Solandra" Subject: Re: [idealcopy] my poor dog.... Hi Robert, Sorry to hear about Dee Dee.I know exactly how you are feeling now.My last dog Ralph died of old age in April this year at 14 and a half.It was like the death of a lot of things at the time.I had him since I was 10.I'm now 24 going on 25.My new dog Geordie went missing last night. That was frightening.Thankfully he was found in a nearby park and taken to the vet.I picked up this morning. He is under the couch looking at me solemnly while I'm typing now. Take care of yourself. WOW! is all i can say...Plaid and Mira Calix put on a corker of a show in Chicago! Squarepushers absence was not a huge loss....Mira Calix (while chain smoking) spun a beatless ambient dj set to kick things off....this was great! i believe i even heard a bit from Low Impact by Immersion....Then a local fellow (forgot the name, sorry) played live/dj'ed and interesting set of dub inflected techno ala Bandulu style.....Then Mira Calix came back with set of WARP style techno/idm that kept many heads bobbing up and down....there was even some pogo-ing in the crowd....Then Plaid brought the house down with some wonderfully melodic electronica...they even had a huge screen behind them where they played/manipulated images and videos.....the video equipment was some amazing set up they had hooked up with their equipment that enabled them to alter this images in real time....the were even recording themselves playing at one time in the show and were able to overlap images and angles..it was very entertaining and if you have the chance to catch this tour i hope you will! even without squarepusher....Take care all!....and by the way; i'm sorry i clogged up Ideal Copy with the story of my dog dying...you are correct, this wasn't really the place for that sort of thing...i was just a bit overtaken with grief and wanted to share to make myself feel better..sorry about that and thanks for all the kind words...
