Peaked early - 808 State - The first 2 albums are good, the next two are pretty lame. To their credit they've realised this, and now restrict themselves to doing remixes of their early product. (Peaking early does seem to be an occupational hazard of a career in "electronica".) Peaked early, troughed, then peaked late - XTC - first 2/3 albums real good, then they tailed off, but the last two Apple Venus outings are worthwhile. What does intrigue me though is when I discuss music at work or down the pub or at social events I'm amazed how boring & uninspiring younger peoples musical tastes in general are. I do have a wry smile on my face when some yoof tries to convince me how outrageous Eminem is or Limp Bizkit as obviously because I'm that much older I must listen to Queen or Elton John or bloody Phil Collins. A couple of my younger work colleagues occasionally borrow my car at work to run errands & the word has got out of my weird tastes ! This week I had to explain the subtle nuances of Mogwai's Rock Action which non plussed the office boy racer ! You've got to be joking! There's my sister for starters. For my sins I've seen a few HM bands e.g. Motorhead, Sabbath. Plenty of women at these gigs. The best/worst example would be seeing Saxon at the De Mont in Leicester where there was a constant stream of young ladies running up to kiss singer Biff Byford. Imagine that at a Wire gig?
