(yeah, i buy too many of the things ... if i'm lucky, i get around to listening to them. damned cd player has made me horribly lazy). last night, for instance, i actually decided to integrate the last several months' worth of 12" acquisitions into that segment of my collection (which in turn i'm boxing, along with the compilations, because i've run out of shelf space & have several hundred lps that need to join their shelved brethren.) turns out i actually own a 12", the seduction, by ludus, about whom i'd become curious a few days ago upon seeing them described in some posts to the typicalgirls list. of course, god only knows what'll turn up when i start combing through the aforementioned lps in a few hours. maybe i'll come across something that will lend itself to house-cleaning, as i've got to get that done in the worst way (apt choice of words in my case, rest assured). dan recent playlist (heavily influenced by my reading of please kill me, which is mostly about the early nyc punk scene) -- television -- adventure (always preferred it to marquee moon, for some reason, critical consensus be damned) heartbreakers -- lamf revisited johnny thunders -- so alone talking heads -- what the songs look like live (spring '79 radio broadcast) styrenes -- it's artastic (breaking ranks slightly ... right time period, though) ladytron -- commodore ep (breaking ranks completely) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 8 Aug 2001 07:22:59 -0500 From: "dan bailey" Subject: Re: [idealcopy] OT; Joys of Music Collection Chaos > Section 25 - In the Garden of Eden (I think)>>>>>>i have a few singles that >i still like..wondering if i should get any of the full length reissues i can join others in highly endorsing always now ... can't speak for key of dreams because i haven't gotten around to giving it a good listen, though i was already favorably acquainted with a couple of the bonus tracks. as always (no pun intended), james nice has done a remarkable job compiling the reissues, though of course there's no way a mere cd can touch the absolutely sumptuous packaging of the lp, which i somehow managed to pick up on clearance at a shop in phoenix around '83 for $5 or so. dan > > Cabaret Voltaire - Nag Nag Nag>>>>>>ahhhh...the mighty Cabs....just listened >to the Living Legends the other day...(a compilation of all the early >singles)...as far as i can tell the only blemish on the cabs record in my >eyes is that crap attempt and the Chicago house sound called Groovy ,Laid >Back and Nasty..and i speak as someone who owns and listens to all their >albums quite frequently....as a matter of fact i am only missing a couple of >Richard Kirk's solo things...hard to keep up with him.. > > Killing Joke - Fall of Because/Unspeakable/Requiem>>>>requiem! now there's a >cracking good tune......the remix by youth (of the orb) is quite good too! > > SPK - Wars of Islam>>>>>>>what album is this from?...i just got Zamia >Lehmanni the other day...(i know it is a very different sounding album from >them but at least it's not like the mid/late 80's dance crap they made..) > > Kraftwerk - Antenna>>>>>>actually, i think Radio-Activity is a very >underrated album > > Residents - Six Things to a Cycle>>>>>>>strangely enough, i have never >really listened to the Residents all that much.....one of those things i have >been meaning to go back and research...... > > Got rid of the drudgery of housework - fast. >>>>>>and any music that does >that is great in my book.......cheers to you all! > >Robert Lynn ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 8 Aug 2001 10:58:28 EDT From: RLynn9@aol.com Subject: [idealcopy] speaking of crap live performances... i was mortified to witness a pathetic live performance by Depeche Mode last night....yes....my beloved DM...i was clicking around on tv last night and came to The Jay Leno Show....my my my how Dave Gahan has aged badly...the drug/party life in rock-n-roll L.A. really did a number on him...but seeing a 40 (?) year old man wiggling his ass and trying to be sexy is just pathetic..his vocals were dreadful and the music was weak even though they actually (gasp!) had a real drummer....after that debacle i retreated to the comfort of my bedroom and listened to the wonderful sounds of: John Hassell - Dream Theory in Malaya (thanks for the influence Kevin Eden) Lewis/Gilbert/ Mills -Pacific Specific Goldfrapp - Felt Mountain (can't say enough about this...Portishead-esque) Peter Benisch - The Soundtrack Saga Cabaret Voltaire - Red Mecca any thoughts?..take care everyone and thanks for the Durutti Column suggestions! Ms Goldfrapp is a much better singer than the Portishead vocalist; there's none of that precious "Mummy, my teddy's stopped breathing" attitude. Goldfrapp is too much mannered John Barry/Burt Bachrach/easylistening, whereas Portishead was a far more interesting mix of sounds. And four years earlier. I got it on bootleg few months before official offer and like it, but after pause of some time, i like it even now..but on different way. But, stop watching everything from Depeche Mode not directed, arranged and invented from Anton Corbijn. Man is genius and thankfully to him, from one good band they transfered to megastars..Band don' t care, or dunno nothing about presenting themselves. BTW, did you know that Gahan was hit with beercan few nights ago in one gig in US. And U2 can say something about it, i believe.. I adore Corbijn when he was working with NME decades ago.. Stefan De Batselier is also good one, and take a photos of Wire if i can recall.. I saw Nick Cave in Budapest and support was Dave Graney ( once in The Moodist ) but Mute informed us that Goldfrapp will be ( are ? ) support on second leg of tour.. Mick Harvey done some remix exclusive to Mute website.. anyone heard that !? mileta ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 8 Aug 2001 23:07:23 EDT From: Eardrumbuz@aol.com Subject: [idealcopy] OT re:sxxv always now In a message dated 8/8/01 8:26:10 AM, dpbailey@worldnet.att.net writes: >though of course there's no way a mere cd can touch the absolutely > >sumptuous packaging of the lp i'm pretty sure always now was the most expensive package ever produced for a record (at that time). it is a beautiful thing. - -paul c.d. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 9 Aug 2001 00:34:13 -0700 (PDT) From: kevin eden Subject: [idealcopy] last night i mostly listened to: Edward Larry Gordon - Celestial Vibration (Laraaji's first LP from 1978) Amelia Cuni - Ashtayama ===== kevin eden wmo limited, po box 112, stockport, cheshire, sk3 9fd, uk e-mail: wmouk@yahoo.com web: www.wiremailorder.com "dreams that money can buy" Make international calls for as low as $.04/minute with Yahoo!
