My old drummer thought it was pap and really dull... until he listened to an '80s Wire CD all the way through. Suddenly one of VMU's tracks of the time lost every single fill, cymbal and so on and became a bs/hi/sn thing, not unlike a certain Gotobed... except for a manic mental fill prior to the track starting. :) Craig. ===== - ------- Craig Grannell / Wireviews --- http://welcome.to/wireviews News, reviews and dugga. What, was it a brick made of dry ice that stopped it from melting? Or were there hoardes of rats or homeless people that suddenly stripped it bare? Or did it get nicked by an illicit cake-making company? I believe that Mark Cox (keyboards) left first. Mick Allen (vocals) is busy with family apparently but Andrew Gray (guitar) is doing stuff... check out his 'Limehouse Outlaw' project at http://www.appleonline.net/limey/ 4AD are meant to be doing a 'greatest hits' at some time... On a 4AD tip, anyone remember Dif Juz? Top guitar band. If anyone's got some of their cassette only stuff I'd love to trade for a CD-R. A great study on the expressive qualities of the electric guitar. I saw that "Soundpool" was reissued a while back, but sadly, nothing on the cassette releases. There was a website up around the time of the reissue that promised more things to come, but it's gone now. Richie, the drummer, worked with FSOL on "My Kingdom," and was rumored to have something in the works for their label, but again, nothing came of it AFAIK. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Jul 2001 18:21:09 +0100 From: "ian jackson" Subject: Re: [idealcopy] Another Torn Hook fernando wrote: >with some others following Peter's lead into >the bass style (e.g., The Cure in Disintegration, etc.). you're not kidding...'Inbetween Days' anyone? surely the greatest compliment paid to Hooky ever? yes, i know Fat Bob was a massive NO fan... >In terms of 80s Wire, to me the distinctive sound is that of >Gotobed's high-hat/snare-drum playing... agreed, especially TIC. ian.s.j. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Jul 2001 10:58:49 -0700 From: fernando Subject: Re: [idealcopy] Another Torn Hook At 18:21 +0100 07.23.2001, ian jackson wrote: >fernando wrote: >>with some others following Peter's lead into >>the bass style (e.g., The Cure in Disintegration, etc.). > >you're not kidding...'Inbetween Days' anyone? >surely the greatest compliment paid to Hooky ever? >yes, i know Fat Bob was a massive NO fan... Joy Division didn't support Wire but they did support the Cure (at the Marquee). And by the end of 1979 the Cure were very much on the same trajectory as Joy Division (17 Seconds and Closer are contemporary albums, as are Faith and Movement). In Between Days is Dreams Never End, of course. Dreams Never End is Femme Fatale....
