Used to hate em but repeated playings of Discography when I used to work in a record shop did me. Particularly Left to my own Devices. >that and 'Being Boring' were the ones that got to me. i really, really despised them previously, despite the fact that Tennant obviously knew his stuff and was a New Order fan to boot. Changing the subject slightly has anyone been to or going to the David Thomas Mirror Man production? We went to see it on Monday at Warwick Arts Centre. >so how was it john? ian.s.j. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 27 May 2001 20:26:52 +0100 From: "ian jackson" Subject: [idealcopy] OT - New Order On Mars tim wrote :- The Republic record with Stephen Hague (Pet Shop Producer) was lacklustre. The Beach thing they did was awful. agreed on both counts. though the 'New Order Story' video is immensely enjoyable (maybe for more serious fans), it took me a long time to get hold of A TAPE of 'Republic' and i was seriously disappointed. 'Regret', a classic, is probably their swansong (how apt), the other singles from the lp are ok, but that's it. New Order, for me, really died after 'Technique'. i've always hated 'blind-faith fandom' (still buying the records when they're obviously shit, that kind of thing), resurrecting Joy Div songs, whilst interesting to hear, was a calculated and cynical move as far as i'm concerned. i don't even want to think about the new lp, if it's all true. ian.s.j. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 27 May 2001 17:17:47 EDT From: MarkBursa@aol.com Subject: Re: [idealcopy] OT - New Order On Mars Ian, << 'Regret', a classic, is probably their swansong (how apt),<< Hope not. I genuinely believe they've still got it in 'em. While hardly ground-breaking, there are elements of the 1st Monaco album that are prime Hooky. >> the other singles from the lp are ok, but that's it.<< A dull record, largely for a seeming total lack of the Hookmeister, who seemed to go completely AWOL after Technique. Revenge...eewww... >> New Order, for me, really died after 'Technique'. i've always hated 'blind-faith fandom' (still buying the records when they're obviously shit, that kind of thing), << oh sure, but NO haven't made anything classifiable as "shit". Just not as good as their best stuff. It's all relative. >>resurrecting Joy Div songs, whilst interesting to hear, was a calculated and cynical move as far as i'm concerned.<< Harsh words!....they did write them! I thought they did Atmosphere pretty well, and I quite liked the Isolation dance mix. And NO even in the early days threw in a few JD songs - eg LWTUA at Birmingham Tower Ballroom circa 1983 and Decades at the RFH in 1984. Never understood why they didn't just do Interzone as it had Hook on lead vocals. >> i don't even want to think about the new lp, if it's all true. >> I hereby predict - two classic tracks, two embarrasing tracks and six mediocre sequenced things.
