Big Black were an innovative and original rock band. Vvm aren't. According to NME Gillian Gilbert has left the band indefinitely to look after her and Stephen's child who has been very ill. Her replacement is Billy Corgan from Smashing Pumpkins (I kid ye not) , who Barney is a great fan of. Also the new LP includes collaborations with Corgan, that sanctimonious little prick Moby, Bobby friggin Gillespie and the f**king Chemical Brothers, who are the most narrow-minded cloth-eared bastards ever, give proper electronic artists a bad name and ruin everything they touch by adding stupid Ecstasy-rush snare rolls every five seconds. Yuck. Paul Morley was right. New Order *was* Rob Gretton. He's only been dead a couple of years and look what happens....they turn into the f**kin Rolling Stones. Ian wrote (re M.O.M) speaking of whom...did anyone hear their new Peel session last week? it was tremendous. i've liked some of their stuff in the past, and this didn't really sound like anything they've done before, i came into a track half way through and couldn't believe it when he said 'that was M.O.M.'... god, why did my tape deck have to die a few weeks ago... Didn't hear the session, but would recommend the new LP (Idiology) which is a lot more varied than their previous burbling, synthesised stuff ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 May 2001 01:02:40 +0100 From: Tim Robinson Subject: [idealcopy] Roxy couldn't make it...so heres James?!?! Paul R, Wrote: well i sat down to watch a tape of roxy music on "later" last week only to find they never turned up. anyone know why? anyone going to see the cash cow tour? Shan't be going but I did make a point of taping Later to see what they sounded like. Their shows can't possibly be as tragic as the forthcoming Beach Boys shows.....supporting Status Quo! Needless to say only one original Beach Pensioner will be on stage, and his surname will not be Wilson...and tickets are #45! Wonder if they'll do any Charlie Manson tunes or anything off 'Smile'? I shall not be going. Actually maybe a few of us should go to a Roxy show and chant 'Wire....Wire...Wire' during the quiet numbers, in retaliation for the 'Roxy.....Roxy.....Roxy' chant during the D&E version of Heartbeat! thanks , lads. you made me suffer a show "headlined" by james. God knows what planet the producer of Later is on, the selection of bands has been worse than ever this time. Its a shame because they usually get terrific performances out of whoever is on.....and the concept of having all the bands in a circle in the same studio is great. If I was Wires manager I would have demanded they go on the show. They would be perfect for Later, and it would be an ideal showcase for them to reach an audience who would remember them but may have switched off in the mid 80s but would be pleasantly suprised by the 2001 version of Wire. now i hate to ever be critical of professional hard-working musicians , but i really think james might consider whether a career break might be in order James make me laugh. For all their rhetoric they still sound like U2 circa 1985. Tim Booth seemed to modelling his hairstyle on Art Garfunkel! Chris Medas wrote: I agree. Does he have to do that stupid dance? Actually I do quite like his dancing. Only because there aren't enough flailing limbs in popular music today. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 23 May 2001 20:28:29 EDT From: HeySean@aol.com Subject: Re: [idealcopy] (OT) New Order on Mars Laffing my friggin ass off on that e-mail! Yuck. Actually I like the Chemical Bros. As to New Order, I always thought of them as being the 80's Pet Shop Boys (don't get me wrong here - this is NOT a compliment). giluz ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V4 #158 *******************************
