Sick Things - Bondage Boy ep Some Chicken - New Religion Unwanted - 1984 Eater and Unwanted are on the Roxy LP. Later Eater sounds like they were trying to do a Wire? Beats their attempts at being Velvet Underground I suppose. I've also been listening to all my old Yeah Yeah Noh records for some reason. John Get email at your own domain with Yahoo! That was me Ian. Anyone who happens to be in Manchester on May 17 may like to attend our Gig at Night & Day where we may well play this again... weird, i was only talking about 'Beequiet' and 'Beehave' to a blank face the other day!!! There you go. So they had a Gotobed and nearlly a Beekeeper! Presumably there were two more characters left on the cutting room floor, 'He Said' and 'Alright 'Ere It is...' chriswire wrote :- I used to love ACR...however 'Sextet' to my ears is just a really strange record. No he didn't write that . That was me! Yes, 'Sextet' still sounds strange and it has one i think it's a masterpiece along with parts of the 1st lp and of course 'Flight' and 'Waterline' (this could go on all day!! if anyone hasn't heard 'Flight' check it out for god's sake...) Hear Hear! ACR should of course be approached with caution as due to line-up changes/label changes after the early FAC records their sound softens dramtically a la Fleetwood Mac! Their 90s stuff was a bit more in the sprirt of the early band but was a bit too processed. And why a band who have one of the funkiest drummers in Manchester resort to using tinny drum machines....... I understand Wire were an early influence as well according to this chronology of the groop: http://home.planet.nl/~frankbri/acrchron.html Anyone know if they are still going? 'I'd like to...' was great but too smooth and i think it was downward slope for me after that... To me its a good companion to Sextext, being almost as surreal and not easy to place where they are coming from! still got the 'Sir Horatio' 12" as well!! Somewhere in the attic have I! Along with All Night Party 7", the Guess Who 12", Brazillia, Shack Up EP etc etc.Variable quality but always great sleeves! just read a review of this (anyone here go?). sounds like television were great but the reviewer felt the younger acts were a little humourless. particular scorn was poured on tortoise who allegedly sent several audience members to sleep , their extended xylophone solo (i kid you not) was not well recieved. i recall similar comments about last year when wire were a breath of fresh air amongst the mogwais et al. That was me. Mogwai played the most dreary, noodling set that was completely at odds with the last time I saw them where they were roaring. I didn't go this year, I wasn't that impressed by the lineup although I would have liked to have seen Boards of Canada, but most of the bands I wanted to see are playing gigs here soon (Autechre tonight!), and I'd always prefer a proper gig to a festival (I can't enjoy myself for three days solid its too much like hard work!) but I must say it doesn't suprise me that Televison were Men of the Match, as Wire certainly made the festival last year, matched only by Stereolab. I was going to catch Tortoise in Manchester in May but this Xylophone solo sounds a bit grim. I quite like some of their stuff but they are seriously over-rated. Their last LP has its moments but I never really understood the critical gush thay follows their releases. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Apr 2001 14:45:41 EDT From: MarkBursa@aol.com Subject: Re: [idealcopy] Syarzhuk Kazachenka -The Ruts Scott, << How can you say "In A rut" was average. In a Rut and Babylon's Burning are both tremendous singles. >> As for Playing Reggae!!! Well Listen to "Rhythm Collision" or any out-takes from that album or the reggae tracks on "Animal" Make NO MISTAKE these guys could play. More musical than shit like UB40 etc. >> Must admit their take on reggae left me cold. No doubt it was heartfelt, and sure, they could play (I actually saw Ruts DC live), but where the Clash's enthusiastic take on reggae seemed to work, the Ruts were almost trying too hard. Maybe their musicianship was TOO good? Never heard the Rhythm Collision album, just the first one, which wasn't very good.
