And didn't Hannett also produce the `remix' also? Certainly seems to have his drum sound on it. Recently made some WMO purchases - impressions so far are that I like the remix (second track) of GilbertPossStenger, but can't get along too well with the first. Was expecting more of a wall of sound (don't know on what grounds), and that it ain't. Ocsid - Opening sweep - hmmm, like the way it kicks off but about 20 minutes in, after the sample (?) of Jealous Guy, I find I can't be bothered. I will persevere, but after HOX, I have to say I'm disappointed at the moment. BG's The Haring I find really compelling - it's almost like being given privileged access to his notebooks. I prefer samples of Ian McCaskill to John Lennon. Children - two stories from then childhood of his parents - is one of the most imaginative approaches to social history yet taken. I'd recommend it. Great packaging, too. Howard ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Apr 2001 07:16:04 -0500 From: "wiremailorder.com" Subject: [idealcopy] I'm back.... 'In 3 Minds' is a track from 'Ab Ovo' so my guess would be that this could be a remix? Does it sound anything like the 'Ab Ovo' track? Of course there are a lot or jovial pranksters about who make tracks and blame them on someone else, so you might've fallen for a fake Gilbert burble! It's probably a remix done by some anonymous entity for a bit of fun. In the end does it matter if Bruce made it or not? It's whether you enjoy listening to it that's important. Maybe I should upload some of my 'Soli' remixes! Then again, maybe not. But I think I might just go hear Autechre & Team Doyobi & DJ Russell Haswell at Manchester Music Box on Friday 13th. Russell Haswell is the noisy designer with multiple Wire connectivity He designed 'The First Letter' (album cover) He woke the fly at the start of 'A Bargain @ 3 an 20 Yeh!' He helped Bruce do his 'TV Spot' remix He did the excellent DJ stint on Garage Sunday And of course, he Disobeyed!!! I was working in a record store (Licorice Pizza) in the late 70's and came across this odd little 45 with a funny picture of a leopard on the cover. Inside was a white record with Outdoor Miner on one side and Practice Makes Perfect on the other. Well that was it for me. I was hooked and of course I still am. Only here in California, outside my immediate group of friends, Wire has always seemed to remain unknown. A few times 12XU made it onto the radio, but that was it. When Wire seemingly died in the early 80's I thought that was the end of it. Then, out of nowhere, Snakedrill appeared! There was life after all. As if that wasn't incredible enough, Wire actually came to LA at the end of the 80's. Another appearance was promised for the early 90's but something fell through (doesn't it always?). So once again I bid Wire farewell (or so I thought) until I came across Wir. Life after all! The last few years have been dedicated to catching up (of course, that's how Wire always makes one feel) and now, to find these web sites, is just startling. Over there, in jolly olde England, I'm sure you can't help but bump into Robert at the fish and chip shop or end up next to Colin on the tube. Wire product and information probably sits on store shelves next to Princess Di buttons and Chunnel t-shirts (you lucky bastards!) Here....well it's quite a different story. OK, enough of that, then. Favorite Wire song?? Dunno...like Wire, it would depend on what mood I'm in. I think Pink Flag is just about the top album of all time, but Ideal Copy would have to be in the neighborhood. Ok is this happy and chirpy?? I hope so! ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V4 #109 *******************************
