It seems there are two factors: 1. IE5.5 has a so-called steath mode that fairly randomly means the site fails. This mode turns of javascript, which means in theory one should see the webTV version. Seeing as the site is currently developed on a Mac, this probably won't be fixed in the short term -- just leave JS turned on! 2. Netscape 4. Since the last update, the site often totally fails in Netcape 4. I have no idea why this is occuring, but am looking for a reason. In the meantime, either use IE or Netscape 6, which seem to work. I'll get the site sorted in Netscape 4 as soon as I work out what's wrong. Best Craig. ===== - ------- Craig Grannell / Wireviews --- http://welcome.to/wireviews News, reviews and dugga. No one lives long enough to keep up with all of it, that's the problem! But if there really isn't enough happening now, all the more reason to go back and check out the Gilbert solo oeuvre. Bruce Gilbert - Music For Fruit Tim>>>>In parts its akin to, but a lot warmer than the Dome stuff. Maybe it is occasionaly more like Dome than Bruce's other solo work, but I think this is certainly more by default than intent - Bruce's signature is apparent on anything he does. As for Dome, an unreliable source told me that its more Graham's thing, but heck, 'Music For Fruit' is way more substantial as pudding after a 'Dome 4' dinner than the He Said albums. After P'o, both Graham and Bruce seem to have made more hi-fidelity recordings. I imagine that this is largely down to advances in technology (certainly 'Hail' was very much enabled by the latest sampler). 'Yclept' is also considerably more hi-tech sounding than the initial quartet of Dome albums. >>>>Its actually a fine but all to brief chunk of electronica. I always wondered what the full unedited piece was like, aside from longer obviously. My take on 'Music For Fruit' is that it seems to couple rhythmic ideas from the techno diaspora with collage ideas from electroacoustic music and does so in a way that no one else had really done previously. The one thing from the Wire related out-takes bins that I'd like to hear above all else would have to be the unfinished tapes Bruce ditched for being too rhythmic between 'Fruit' and 'Ab Ovo'. If you like this and 'Ab Ovo' then the next thing to hear is the remix 12" Ovo Mix / ORF mix if you can find one - this really is an audio collage masterpiece! One side uses 'Ab Ovo' as the source and on the other Bruce mixes bits form his solo recordings previous to that. And if 'Music For Fruit' tickled your fancy, might I also suggest that Paul Kendall's CD's on Parallel Series (via Mute) under the guises of Piquet and Kendall Turner Overdrive (vastly improved Simon Fisher-Turner remixes) would be worth a listen! Paul Kendall co-produced 'Music For Fruit' and there are similarities in their approach to sound. 'Insiding' is also well worth a listen, although it's more rhythmic and stripped down not quite as multi-dimensional as 'Music For Fruit'. I don't go back to it quite so often. >>>>It was written for a contemporary darnce piece on Channel 4 or something but don't let that put you off. (Oops I'm starting to sound like Mark Prindle here). It's the second piece 'Push' which was used for an animation shown by Channel 4 and the dance piece 'Fruit' by Aletta Collins was a separate endeavour. Has anyone seen the animation 'Signature' for which 'Push' was the soundtrack? The closing track 'You Might Be Called' is a linear rhythmic song with almost mantric vocals from Angela Conway ("Many are called / You are chosen") which wouldn't sound out of place on the AC Marias album, and neatly adds a pop twist at the end. As for sounding like Mark Prindle, well I wouldn't know about that! After Paul reported that this shmuck compared '154' to Phil Collins lets just say I didn't exactly rush to view his website. You've got to laugh though. Just keep whatever drugs the guy is on well away from me! >>>>If the Aphex Twin released it tommorow everyone would say it was a work of genius. Much as I like Aphex Twin, 'Music For Fruit' fairly craps on anything he's ever done IMO. And as for 'Ab Ovo' well don't start me off. But since Richard's raised his head, it might be comical to note that V/Vm are putting out a couple of 3" CD's chock full of unofficial Aphex remixes / hack-butchery in a bid to help the Twin. Catalogue numbers are HAT01 & HAT02 so you'd better start locking! Take a banana! MJ croons the song over an acoustic guitar/drum n bass backing. weird. Colin ; Round and Round (ZM remix). ZM (whoever he may be) sticks a contemporary dance groove under R&R. works quite well really. thinking about it , colin's crammed stuff must be a remixers dream ; great melodies and very little percussion so you can really go to town. wonder what's next ; craig david tackling kidney bingos? p ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V4 #107 *******************************
