There was some question about whether or not the VU influenced KC. Fripp answered (through his web cite) that he was not directly influenced by them, but acknowledged that they were part of what was in the air (paraphrase). Kristin Hersh, having finally laid Throwing Muses to rest, released a new solo album today, and launched a small tour by playing a Seattle bookstore this afternoon. Apparently, the earthquake wasn't enough to scare her off - she lives here now. First Steve Miller, then the drummer from Yes, then R.E.M. all move to Seattle. Can Wire be far behind on the Seattle pilgrimage? (^_^) She played a 40 minute acoustic set, comprised of new songs and a few old chestnuts, and then hung around to chat and sign autographs. Much more fun than work, I can tell you. I first saw them live in 1989, and then twice thereafter, down the street in Portland. Definitely more a fan of the older material than the new. Hunkpapa and House Tornado are still in "heavy rotation" at my house. How's her new album? Is there an actual tour on, or is it just a few one-off shows up there in the NW? I'll stick with vinyl. My turntable is a pretty nice piece of kit, and I'm well satisfied that it produces a more melodic and natural sound than I get out of any of my 4 CD players. I doubt I'd find a CD player that can beat my turntable - and if I do - then I'll just have to start saving up for the LT-1XA Laser Turntable - Optical Record Player (but at $13,500, it'd take me forever!) ( www.elpj.com/main.html ) Last night I only listened to the following: Genesis - Foxtrot Residents - Freak Show Shellac - 1000 Hurts. Not so many, last night, cos I went to watch Bury beat table topping Millwall. Yeah, i've got a pair of NS-10's for reference, and they're quite easy to use - if it sounds good on them it'd probably sound good anywhere. I actually think they're great speakers - not much fun to listen to, but extremely good for reference. giluz ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V4 #70 ******************************
